  1. Doesn't really matter.. But from the TackleTour website.. Most all of the guides manufactured and used in today's rods will hold up to braided lines........ Tight Lines!!
  2. Hey sqhertz, If you go back to that PDF and re-read they tell you the lubrication's used. Not that the drag grease is used on the gears, in fact they don't mention gears in that PDF until you get into (Heavy Duty Maintenance) on reels that have been exposed to salt water or submerged in saltwater. The Shimano drag grease has a very high viscosity, and tack. This alone would make it to thick for gears in a normal clean and lube for freshwater reels and will affect the reels performance...For saltwater reels and reels that are serviced and setup for salt I can see using the drag grease sparingly... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  3. ............ Are you talking about the cast control cap next to the crank??
  4. RW you didn't ask for a makeover... IMPO everyone should go read and re-read Jeff Nielsen' article until you truly understand what a super tune is and what reels benefit from them. http://super-tuning.home.mindspring.com/i1.html Tight Lines!!
  5. Yup! IMPO the brakes aren't worn out it is just a design quirk... Tight Lines!!!
  6. Try a little more reading on how to setup a baitcast system..... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1151590913 http://www.***/education/baitcaster-setup-101.html Good luck & Tight Lines!!
  7. Not in sharp focus, but it looks similar to the Quantum braking system. Use to have the same problem with them. We found when placing the brake side plate that we made sure all of the brakes were pushed in toward the spool center, with the dial on 0 then add the plate. Once the plate is mounted then turn the dial to max/10 and back to Zero. Then back to whatever setting we wanted to start with. Sometimes it would work the first time, sometimes it took a couple of times to get it setup. But each time we added the side plate we had to make sure that all of the brakes were depressed before adding the side plate... Just a thought......... Good luck & Tight Lines !!
  8. Vinny, Just a thought..... Bet the reel is new and has never been service. If so it is the old heavy grease that Shimano puts on the worm gear, and just about covers the inside of the reel with at mfging time. Clean it out and re-lube with a light oil. If the reel has been serviced then it could be a foreign substances like cottonwood fluff, etc. Like I said just a thought... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  9. To mine and many other service shop's it is considered a basket case (disassembled reel), and will add a small fee to their standard service charges. This is all dependant on whether or not all of the parts are there, and none need to be ordered/replaced.... Up in your territory I would check with Mikes repair.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  10. Won't bring up the Daiwa Twitchn Bar Gimmick thread again. It's repairable and properly used is an OK reel... Take or send it to Mikes Reel Repair ..... http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/index.php Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  11. IMPO in St. Croix casting blanks, to get the lure range you are looking for I would go with a SC369MLXF 1/8oz. - 1/2oz. ......great blank! Otherwise go with a 3C66MLF in a spinning blank, different taper.... 1/8oz. - 3/8oz. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!
  12. IMPO they are. But it is hard to make comparison's from blank to blank especially bare blanks. The addition of components will change the comparison's quickly... In my 15 yrs building (exclusively on St Croix & Shikari) I have built a couple on that blank... Might be a little stiff.. The lure rating for that blank is: 3/16oz. - 1/2oz....Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  13. Pick through the listings for the MHX blanks find the lure ratings you like to use and build on that blank. Don't try to match the MHX blank to any SC blank there are no comparisons in my opinion.... Good Luck & Tight Wraps!
  14. As per usual some more great work oldschool........
  15. That sounds like you need to polish the inside of the pinion gear, and the surface of the spool shaft...I can tell you that is isn't a bearing problem, could be oxidized bearing shims (if they are metal).... But i would bet that it clears up with just a polishing of the free spooling friction points..... Tight Lines! How would I go about polishing the inside of the pinion gear? What would oxidized bearing shims look like? Also, how should I polish the spool shaft? Try here...http://super-tuning.home.mindspring.com/i1.html

  17. Just a thought here. If you can tie the line to an unmovable object and do a hook set and not get the spool to react the way it does when you spin the crank hard and stop it (spool keeps spinning and ratcheting). Then I would say your making something from nothing. But if you do a hook set and the spool brakes lose then I would recommend you remove the pinion gear and check to see if you have the pinion yoke in upside down.. ..( don't laugh it can be done).... Just a thought............. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  18. No problem. Service centers don't use or even look for used parts, probably why we never bothered to look on the net for them.Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!!
  19. I have never seen anyone in my 25 yrs doing service that listed used parts... You were advised right because that grip doesn't have separate pieces like some other higher end crank systems would... You could check with Mike's but he doesn't sell used parts either, and, even if he did you are buying from a shop in Canada and the international shipping $$$ will hurt the pocket book... I would check places like Southwestern Parts & Service or check the net garage sale (E-bay) and try to find the whole crank... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  20. All the spring does is add tension to the CC Cap so it doesn't back off and come off on it's own or loosen and lose the adjustment. There should be a copper shim, and black pressure backer in the cap. If the shim has a dimple in it this will be the reason for the lack of adjustment in the cast control cap. the shim and sometimes the black backer will need to be replaced for proper adjustability.... Also with all that said if the shim on the palming side is worn out (heavy dimpled) that will be factor 2 in the reason for no proper adjustments. Replace both shims at the same time............ Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  21. I agree 100%, but still it is good to use the reel lubricated by the factory as a break in period while under the 1 yr. warranty (just in case)....Supertuneing is basically the polishing of all free spool friction points in a BC reel. We are talking deep cleaning of the reel, bearing packs, shims, etc. Then polishing the brake race ring, spool shaft (on one piece shafts), inside of the pinion gear (on one piece spool shaft reels), shims (palming side & cast control). The rest of the super tune is nothing more that using the proper grease and oils in the proper places and quantities.. If a service center is doing a proper job it shouldn't any more than a first time top quality C&L on a BC reel. This helps the reel get all it can be, while still stock .... Adding bearing packs and drag sets is an upgrade, just like adding metal drag stars, pawl caps, cranks, crank paddles etc. Tight Lines!!!
  22. I would recommend that you contact Quantum first. That reel is a 1996 reel and they may not work them any longer, or carry replacement parts..... BTW you can get NIB's online for around the $55.00 mark... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  23. I agree order the part you need, contact Garcia® direct. But you probably don't have the schematic for the reel, so here are the parts you need depending on the actual model you have.... Check the underside of the reel foot for the right series 08-00 or 08-01 Garcia 6601 AB 08-00 #24104 Handle Nut #301 Handle Nut Keeper Screw #20944 Handle Nut Keeper Garcia 6601 AB 08-01 #15653 Handle Nut #96274 Handle Nut Keeper #25230 Handle Nut Keeper Screw Hope this helps...... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  24. I have sold tons for the Fuego, Sol, and Viento...You need Daiwa set #1.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  25. Gary Loomis teamed up with Temple Fork Outfitters to create the Gary Loomis Signature Series Casting Rods I don't think at a $99 price point that North Fork is building the blanks for these rods. I do think Gary was instrumental in the overall design of the rods The last low end modules blank 7' M/H/F I ordered from North Fork was $135.00 retail just for the blank....... Just the thoughts of a rod builder......
