Why Wear a Life Jacket?
When I retired at 56 I bought my Mustang inflatable and a pair of studded wading boots for solo night striper fishing off the breakwaters in RI, a lot can go wrong on a rainy windy night. Secondary use was for the canoe although it’s now flip flopped.

Why Wear a Life Jacket?
So now we all know how dangerous cold water can be, with or without a life jacket, it begs the question, how do folks that fish from kayaks or canoes prepare for cold water fishing? Has anyone taken a dunk when it’s cold, if so how’d you handle it? I don’t think I could right a canoe anymore, much less in stone cold water. Does anyone conform to the chart AJ posted? I know I should, but I don’t. I’m not out there when it’s cold, too old for that, I only do what it says when the waters 80 degrees and up, which it may not even get to here. First you’ll see me is a water temp of about 50, the best I do is stay relatively close to shore.

Two piece rods?
For fresh water I have a couple, both St Croix Premiers, most of my salt rods are 2 pc. The 2 pc rods were chosen when size is or was an issue. The fresh to fit in the RV, the salt cause they are way too long to fit in the car or truck. I read somewhere that if you buy a good make/model of pc it’ll fish as well as a 1 pc. While the Premiers aren’t top shelf, I can’t tell the difference between that model in 1 and 2 pc. i have also had the tip half go flying more then once, never had the line break doing so so no loss, you just feel foolish. Reminds me to check it more often.

Boat rookie
It’s safe with properly sized cables and breakers/fuses. Both should be chosen to handle the load and length of each run.

Photo hosts
I used to use Photobucket when I was on a forum that would only accept photos from such, as I no longer post there I dropped the account. To me it’s simpler to direct post the photos from whatever device I’m using then delete them afterwards. I also use Resizer on the pc and Image Size on the ipad. I had no issues with Photobucket but it’s been a number of years since last used.

Kayak Seat Cushions
I have one of those 3” seats I bought for sciatica and tried in the canoe, it put me up so high the boat was tippy, went with a 2” purple instead.

I lost my best friend yesterday.
Oh man, that really sucks, I feel for you.

Here’s a previous thread, sort of. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/258229-kayak-kushion/#comment-3026297

Well, THAT doesn't happen every day
I think about it sometimes when I take our Maltese out back, we have hawks frequently that sit in the trees as well as the occasional owl at night. When I get concerned I use leash, but that’s only when I’m thinking about it. We also get birds running into the big side windows, probably bolting from the hawks. I put on https://www.collidescape.org/ this past spring, so far so good.

Why Wear a Life Jacket?
When I was younger if the water was warm and the weather was good I’d just have one along, it was my backrest in the canoe, the rest of the time it was on. As I get older and fret about such things I wear one pretty much all the time. Getting an inflatable took care of it being too warm. My main concerns now are hypothermia and can I trudge thru the muck to get out. In Ma we have to wear them Sep 15 thru May 15

Fisheries Biologist consultant wanted
You can google “pond management company Florida” and some come up. The first one I clicked on has an office in Fort Meyers, might be you could ask and see if your $ match their $. Solitude Lake Management is the one I clicked on.

Creative ways to charge your boat without shore power
It only matters if you want to know how long it’ll take to charge to 100%. Can you tell when the batteries reach 100% now? If so, just time it after an average day from when you plug it in till they are full. Running off a generator should be the same as far as I know but then I don’t know about 24v systems. fwiw, I had a neighboring camper shutoff my Honda 2k one time when we took the dog for a walk, they are comparatively quiet, but not really quiet. I started running mine in the truck bed with the cap closed up.

You need to figure out battery level at the end of an average day as well as the capacity of the batteries to determine how long it’d take to recharge from any source.

Creative ways to charge your boat without shore power
I don't know how feasible solar would be on a bass boat. You'd need to figure how much power you use in a day, then see if you have room for enough panel to generate that. An example. A 100 watt panel is 42" x 21" and generates about 5 amps in an hour, depensing on weather, season, and time of day. Might get up to 30 amps a day. If you burn just 50 amps, you'd need 2 panels, etc. Got room?

Creative ways to charge your boat without shore power
It can take a long time to charge batteries on a generator, at least ones small enough to lift into a boat.

In what application(s), would you need a reel with 8.1:1 gear ratio?
My SIL uses a RevO Rocket for almost everything, suppose once you’re used to it you can crank as slow as you want.

Stuff you did back in the day, that you shouldn't have done...
Things I’ll mention, oil down the storm drains, doing auto body with no masks, stripping my Dad’s snowblower for a go cart, stupid stuff. Things I’ll not mention… many, embarrassing things.

Cicada Apocalypse
I read an article about this just a couple days ago, looks like IL is the place to be if you want to hear them. I imagine this will be a great year for birds and bass, maybe not so for bass fishermen, let us know.

Your fishing style in as few words as possible (explanation allowed)
I fish to canoe.

Struggling to stay in one spot on a kayak
In my canoe I use lengths of 1 1/2” pvc filled with birdshot. I use a 3.5 lb on light breeze days and go to a 7 lb for stronger, and occasionally both. These drag thru the weeds and stumps so if you go with a mushroom or something like Crow Horse posted you’ll have more holding power. I gave up on them after losing several in the stumps.

The boat market is crashing
It’s 5+ times what we paid for our house in Omaha. No such luck when we moved to Ma.

Rivers flooding in Maine
How often do folks actually need to use their generator? I got my Honda in 2006 and have used it for real twice, once for a week, and another for 3 days, maybe another once or twice for a few hours each. I use it so infrequently that I leave it dry, of course I’m the autostart for it.

How much snow this winter? And how are you moving it??
Not nearly what some of you folks are getting, the biggest was 14” of heavy wet snow. I have a Simplicity Signature Pro commercial job, I was looking for the most power after having a little 5hp before that. Sure is nice when you get into that heavy wet stuff. Got it the year before B&S bought them. My brother has and uses the Arien’s that my dad used, 60 years ago, starts and runs fine every time. I remember when my dad added the electric starter to it, what a beast before that?

What was you're best lure and set up last year?
Rage Baby Craw on whatever. Catches the most, most anything too, but not the biggest.
