Barbs
I do both, when I feel bad after messing up a fish digging out a hook I mash the barb and fish till i feel bad for missing a good fish, then I go back. I don’t keep anything so missing fish isn’t a big deal till it feels like a big one. I have to pay more attention when barbless, which is the hard part.

You ever hire a complete stranger to watch your animals at your house while you are away?
We have, although it’s been a while, worked fine for us. A young lady getting her masters at one of the local colleges.

Most Unusual Animal You've Encountered While Fishing.....??
Not so common, osprey, bear, and either mink or weasels, I don’t know the difference.

How do you teach someone to catch fish?
Thanks all for the suggestions. I like the idea of me not fishing, and try point out where to cast. Also picked up some 5” Senko’s, although I’ll have to go out myself and see if I can get Roadwarriors suggestion to work before I think about asking someone else to try it.

How do you teach someone to catch fish?
Have been taking 2 grandkids fishing this year, both new to the sport, can’t seem to get them to catch fish using anything but worms bobber style, these are teenagers. Fishing the same areas in the same boat using the same baits, they catch nothing, I catch a bunch. How do you convey lure speed, depth, feel, and such without coming across as preaching? It’s all I can think of different. If it matters I’m self taught so I have no model to look back on.

The sun and fishing
I use WileyX Omega progressives as they were the only ones offering to do progressives in wraparounds. About $400, which isn’t bad for what they are. I wouldn’t mind going cheaper if someone offered such a thing. If it were me and I had single vision I’d price out a set of good ones that are wraparound and compare to a cheaper pair. I’ve sent my pair back for new lenses as they change over the years, must be 10 years now.

What mini boat would you pick?
When I bought my Raider from Cabela’s they supposedly had all the paperwork ready to go get it registered. Being from MA and Cabela’s being in CT they were missing one form about out of state sales tax. Up here we go to the Environmental Police for boats, PA probably differs. I’d suggest you call whoever registers and find out what forms you need so you don’t have to make multiple trips like I did. If you are lucky and the dealer is in PA, they should know this stuff, at least BPS, maybe not Dick’s.

Landscapers/lawn experts
Looks like uneven fertilizing, or those spots are the first to show they need more, like the next application. Suppose it could also be any of the myriad of lawn problems that we all fight every year, bugs, fungus, etc etc. if I look out at my back lawn, I have dark and lighter areas, although not in lines like your looks to be. if you have a lan service for fertilizer, call and ask them. When I had one if I called they’d send someone out to look it over.

What mini boat would you pick?
I agree, they sure like like the same boat to me, which means it makes no difference if the prices and distance to get it are the same. The only thing I see different is the coloring.

My Fishing Partner
Had a brother and neighbor I fished with, one or the other. Neighbor has been laid up for about 10 years now so he’s out, and I lost my brother a couple years ago. After going only by myself I now have 2 grandsons that like to go, one 8 and the other 14. Unfortunately their parents won’t let them skip school so I have to wait for weekends or summer, which for fishing, starts next week.

How Many Rebuilds On Your Gas Grill ?
Having a gasser, charcoal kettle, and a pellet grill, no way can I get as good a burger off the gas or pellet grills. When I’m going for flavor, usually steaks and burgers, I use charcoal. Fwiw… “Propane as a gas burns higher and hotter than natural gas. However, when a barbecue is manufactured for use with natural gas, specific valves are used. These valves allow more natural gas to enter the barbecue’s burner systems. So, while natural gas is slightly cooler than propane, more of it is being burnt and the heat produced by the barbecue should be identical whether you buy the propane or natural gas model.” you can cover the grate with bread, turn it on till it gets a bit toasted, then flip em over to see the hot and cool spots.

How Many Rebuilds On Your Gas Grill ?
I had a 2000 Weber Genesis till 2020 when the frame rotted apart, I had newer heavy duty SS grates and flavorizers on it as well as newer burners. After 20 years I felt good enough about it that I bought a used 2001 Genesis C that had no rust after being disappointed with the quality of new ones. Rebuilt it including striping and repainting. I got lucky where some of the good parts of the old one fit the new one. My opinion is if you have a good grill with a good solid frame it’s worth putting out for good quality after market rebuild parts. There’s a forum for old Webers where one can go and find sources for high quality parts and even instructions for bringing the old back to life.

8’ Pond Prowler Outboard
Welcome to the forum. A number of folks on the Pond Prowler/Bass Raider Facebook page have done so. There’s a new post about a Raider with a Yamaha 2.5 but I’ve seen up to 5 hp.

Do you have a hard time getting motivated to go out in the rain even though you know that’s when the giants are crushing?
I’ll do the hour drive in a light rain but not if it’s heavy, same with launching. Once I’m on the water I’ll wait out heavy rain for a while but not very long, lighter stuff I don’t mind. I like to be out there when it stops.

How to get bass stuck in grass...lost my PB today
The only thing that really works for me is to set it hard and crank as hard and fast as I can trying to not give ‘em a chance to bury in the weeds. Once they get good and buried I lose at least as many as I land. I would think being on shore you could put a lot more torque on them than I can in a canoe. As others have said, bigger line and maybe a heavier rod if you can get them moving your way fast enough.

Why do folks eat chain pizza?
The only times I’d do chain pizza was when I was out of town on business. Sometimes the best choice at 9pm is the chain place next door to the hotel. Used to be most area pizza shops were Greek or Italian owned, many have changed hands and quality has suffered badly. Online reviews should have a shelf life.

Your thoughts on this.
While I use a plastic till it won’t stay in place I have thought at times that when I put on a fresh one I get hits faster. Of course by that time the old bait is missing most of it’s appendages and is usually pretty limp.

How will the smoke from canada affect fishing on the east coast?
Fishing this am at 1500’ couldn’t smell or see any smoke, 30 minute ride home down to 250’, much smoke and smell, eastern Berkshires. Out of maybe 20 LMB, not one over a pound, very unusual, I’m blaming the smoke.

Grass Ninja Blade vs Razor Blade
Just a thought. The Ninja’s are made of aluminum, you need special prep to get epoxy to stick to it, you can by an etching solution for it, which is the correct method. Fwiw, I had luck with aluminum solar panel mounting channel by sanding it and hitting it with alcohol just before using the epoxy. Most folks were using 3M VHB 2 sided tape, same thing many pro installers use to stick aluminum to fiberglass from roofs. Ninja ships with 3M VHB underwater double sided tape, I’d use it.
