  1. Got my grandson an SLX XT this winter, so far he loves it. Take a look at the SLX series, there’s one to match your budget, $100 thru $199.
  2. What a tag sale that’d make.
  3. Over the years the trees have grown and now shadow the garden for much of the day, started putting in a few raised beds in a sunny spot. Didn’t think about the weight of 12’ foot long 4”x 8” fresh cut lumber which I got a deal on at the sawmill. 2 days work and 1 to recover, going to take a while. 40 years getting the lawn in good shape wiped out by last year’s drought, waiting for fall to replant, fescue this time, no more blue grass.
  4. Just put Hi-Viz on a reel 2 days ago for use tomorrow, my first try with it. Guess I’m getting to that age too. Hopefully my results match yours.
  5. I use spinning for all but heavy lures, I tried them on med/heavy spinning gear but holding and releasing the line tore up my finger and caused knuckle pain on long days. Other then that spinning reels give me less issues so I use them.
  6. I was doing pour over local roasted Sumatra till prices about doubled. Tried a few replacements and ended up with Major Dickinson’s, not that I tried a lot of different ones. Been happy with it for a couple years now. Takes about half as much of the Peet’s as it did of the Sumatra, which is a good thing.
  7. A couple good days in the Berkshires, about 20 combined picks and LM’s each day. GS #2 got his PB @ 2.75.
  8. Retired yes, fish every day no. I don’t care for ice fishing so that cuts t down to 7 months of maybe twice a week. Too much going on for everyday, have 6 grand kids, half in sports everyday so just going to games sucks up weekends, add in dr visits, kid sitting, and yard/garden work, which I enjoy, and 2 days is about the limit.
  9. I use the clinch mostly, but working on the jam. I used the uni for something like 20 years but had it slip out a few times so went to the clinch, most likely a user issue. I do use the double uni on the boat as I know it and can tie it in the wind. Been working on the Alberto as it seems thinner. The knot I know is better then the one I don’t.
  10. They pled guilty yesterday, you can google walleye tournament cheater if you want more info, I didn’t want to post the link.
  11. Depends how you look at it. If I want to fish with what I prefer to use, then a season or 2. If it’s just being able to fish with whatever, then many years.
  12. Heard on the news this am that up in the hills where I fish got up to 40” this week. Got a feeling it’s going to be a while before I can drive down the unmaintained access roads leading to the ponds.
  13. That being the case, look for a cheap Heavy saltwater rod, longer will cast it farther, so maybe a 2 pc surf casting rod. Check out Purefishing, they do Ugly stix, Shakespeare, and such. You might even find a combo. You can even cast it like a surf rod where you lay out 6’ or so of line and launch it like a trebuchet. If needed you can get a surfcasters trigger which I found useful for heavy baits that tore up the finger.
  14. I think the op may be mistaken, the ones I’ve seen are more like 3oz.
  15. I’m usually on the water before light so I get ‘em ready the evening before. FWIW, I’ve not had any rust when left on but I don’t go the salted route.
  16. With our present batch of politicians anything is possible. But this sounds like it may fall under the “too good to be true” saying.
  17. A boats a want, not a need, wait till you save up the $. Find something used you can pay for.
  18. Guess that means you’re looking for a spinning rod. I’ve always bought US made St Croix’s which in your and my price range would be a Premier. I did get just a Dobyns Fury for my grandson that looks real nice, can’t try it out till ice out.
  19. Working life (nights), I'd guess 6 or so. Retired life, 2 before noon. If I have one later it screws up sleeping.
  20. Looking at the drought map, KS and NE could use some of the excess.
  21. Very nice, guess I need to go see if anywhere out here has open water.
  22. Never gave it a thought till I started hanging out here. For the most part it’s just by feel and a little common sense.
  23. Haven’t used any of my guns in at least 25 years. My fly gear has been gathering dust for around 10, every once in a while I’ll take out the 7wt for a pond, but even that has been a couple years. my fish finder is pretty much a virgin too.
  24. I can get 20ish minutes if I only use fresh charcoal, if I add some of the partial used from the last cook, which I usually do, it goes up to 30ish. Fastest start for me is using the MAP torch to get it going, newspaper or some such takes a bit longer. Times are just to get the coals, briquettes in my case, all 100% burning, I give it another 10 after I spread ‘em so the SS grates heats up. Don’t know about chunk. Takes 10 min to heat up the gasser, a few min more if I was too lazy to scrape it down at the end of the last cook.
  25. I used to go to a lot of computer schools outside Boston. One of the highlights was a dinner trip to Lowell Ma to the Prince Grotto, started by the owner of Prince Macroni. Sadly gone now. Prince Grotto
