  1. I often fish a 100 ac shallow pond near me, this year it was not uncommon to encounter up to 4 otters out doing their thing early in a.m.
  2. A few as a kid, nothing since, at least none I can remember.
  3. Thanks all, got what I needed. I’ll do some practicing while I’m watching todays games and see which knots I want to sick with.
  4. Started using leader, braid to FC, last year when fishing bass in pickerel infested waters, so I’m pretty new to them. Many times I reel the knot into the guides, mostly by accident, when I cast I can feel the knot thump its way through the guides which has to have some effect on casting. Have tried a few different knots, which I can tie okay if I setup at home, use a double uni if I have to tie on in the boat, it’s the only one I’m proficient at. I do okay if I only use a 12 to 18” leader, which don’t last me too long as sometimes I retie quite a bit, I only carry a few rods. 1. should I be using superglue, at least for the home tied knots? I see what looks like glue on some of the images folks post. 2. How short do you cut the tags, with rod without the superglue? 3. Do you feel your leaders going through the guides? Thanks
  5. Wow, I couldn’t stuff enough lead in my 5 biggest to hit 44 lbs.
  6. learned correctly, if I do it correctly, by watching and helping the deck hands on the ocean charters we did in my teens and 20s. I was however doing it since a kid, probably incorrectly, from fishing at the shore, which I did a lot of with the neighbors who had a cottage at the Ct shore.
  7. In the weedy ponds I fish I find I need to anchor a lot in the canoe, it’s hard to fish weeds while getting blown around, which doesn’t take much breeze. Sometimes I want to drift, if it’s in the right direction. And sometimes I’ll drop my smaller 3 lb anchor to just drift slowly. The anchor being a short lead filled pipe it doesn’t get hung up in the stump roots.
  8. I don’t see anything there that I use so to me it’s worth zip. If they look like something you want to try then offer the $50.
  9. When we see CA in the news, it’s either burning from one end to the other, of getting drenching rain and sliding away with the mud. Given the news’s propensity to only show the very worst cases, how bad are things in reality?
  10. The web site says it’s exclusive to Farm & Fleet. If I ever make it to a Packers game I’ll stop in.
  11. Not Dave but... I mentioned mine broke when i put the anchor on it, they didn't care and replaced it.
  12. 2x4 or 2x6 ramps help a lot.
  13. Then I'd need a trailer for the boat, but I've thought about it.
  14. Thanks all, guess I have a non problem.
  15. Looking for ideas on transporting my rods going to a pond. Currently drive an F150 long-bed with truck cap, canoe goes on the roof rack or the Bass Raider goes in the bed, rods in a rod holder on the inside side of the cap. The 11 yo truck is having major steering issues at 120k so I’m thinking about a new midsize truck as I no longer lug around a 5th wheel. The thing is the beds are all short, like 5-6’, a foot or 2 shorter than the rods. Figure I’ll get a cap for the replacement so I can still put the canoe up there, but when I do what do I do with the rods. No problem when I take the Raider as it goes in the truck bed and would hold the rods, but it might be with just the canoe, hitch is way too long for the truck bed. At the moment I’m thinking a Honda Ridgeline with 5’4” bed. If I could get a mid size that had an 8’ bed I’d already own it. Anyone else run into such? I’m thinking most of you trailer your boats so it’s not an issue.
  16. I originally had a lock on mine, back when you had to pay to do it, there were no freezes. Uncle Sam made it where we can now freeze it, which is pretty much the same as a lock, for free and change back and forth at will. It’s not often the government does something beneficial to us. So yes, I’ve had mine frozen for years, just need to remember to unfreeze it when needed.
  17. Nope, not staying tuned. Not worth staying up for.
  18. If you see any ice fisherman out while you’re scouting, they’d know how thick the ice gets. Around here a normal winter would be 2-3’, max. Plenty of wiggle room for fish in the shallow pond I frequent. this winter there is almost none, so far.
  19. For 2023 they only show the saltwater catalog as available, all the rest are 2022.
  20. I'll pass on both, it's winter.
  21. As I stated above, I started wearing glasses on my early 20’s as it was blurry driving at night. Just took the dog to the vet in the next town, at 66, with progressives, I can’t see squat driving at night with car headlights coming at me. What comes after glasses?
  22. Interesting, Umass says the native worms were killed off by glaciers for Canada and northern US.
  23. $5 at Harbor Fright.
  24. Got 1st glasses in my 20's for night driving although I've had them on solid since, graduated to progressives at roughly 40. 66 now. Best thing I got was the brown polarized progressive shades. With the brown I can wear them inside when I forget to take them off. Of course they don't cut the sun quite as much but its fine other then when it's sunny and snow covered. I use Wyley Omega's, wrap around is great in the boat. Not a lot of wrap arounds to choose from when you need progressives.
