Has Bass Pro Shops Done Away With The BPS Master Catalog???
For 2023 they only show the saltwater catalog as available, all the rest are 2022.

Procuring your own bait..
Interesting, Umass says the native worms were killed off by glaciers for Canada and northern US.

Your Eyesight
Got 1st glasses in my 20's for night driving although I've had them on solid since, graduated to progressives at roughly 40. 66 now. Best thing I got was the brown polarized progressive shades. With the brown I can wear them inside when I forget to take them off. Of course they don't cut the sun quite as much but its fine other then when it's sunny and snow covered. I use Wyley Omega's, wrap around is great in the boat. Not a lot of wrap arounds to choose from when you need progressives.

Do you agree with this quote?
I agree. I started fishing again as an adult as just something to do while out paddling. I will say that catching fish keeps me in the canoe longer then when not.

Barbless and single hooks: thoughts?
Last year I changed a bunch of trebles to singles, other then a hard time finsding the right hooks and small enough spilt rings, it wasn’t a big deal. I do notice more fish just bumping the lures but once they bite they stay on okay. I did not smash the barbs on those. Most of the rest of my smaller spinners with trebles I’ve mashed the barb on. It amounts to all the small lures have either singles, of neutered trebles.

What Have We Become ?
I just read this whole thread thinking it was new. If you want to save money on tackle, don’t frequent a fishing forum. In past winters I would spend about $50 for the next seasons tackle. Today I put everything I want to get in a wishlist on TackleWarehouse, comes out to about $300. That’s what happened from hanging out here. And that’s just the small stuff. This thread convinced me to go back over the list, got to drop some of the new to me techniques. Maybe just gear up to add just 1.

8 carrier braid color fade
I have a small spool of their Yellow on order, at $30 for 150 yds. I want to try one of the cheaper, if you can call it that, non non fade lines too and compare them later this year. (Almost wrote “next year”) Happy New Year…

8 carrier braid color fade

8 carrier braid color fade
Tried a spool of Sufix 832 late this year, my 1st 8 carrier. Really like the line but man, does it fade fast. I’m going to try some Hi Vis this spring, being as how the purpose is to better see the line, the quick fade would seem to be a detriment. Does anyone know of good 8 carrier that fades less and comes in a Hi Vis color?

The drawbacks of a canoe.
At least you can stand up and walk around, best I can do is stretch my legs out, which doesn’t help the butt.

The drawbacks of a canoe.
Even with the memory foam seat in the canoe I can’t sit in it for more then 5 or 6 hours.

Super cheap gems
Under $50? Once upon a time I used an Ugly Stick without issues.

SLX DC, US vs JAP
Looking at the US SLXDC150HG, on the Digitaka site they show a SLXDC70HG. The specs differ in that the Jap model shows .2 oz lighter and it’s a 6+1 bearing vs a 4+1, price diff is less then $20. Am I missing something? Going from the model #s I would have expected the us model to be bigger then the jap one, line capacity is the same. I also thought the bearings count would be the same.

TOP GUN: Maverick
To me it was okay but too much copied from the first. As it pulled in 1.5 billion, I must be in the minority.

Show your fishing holes!
Thanks, it’s from John Winters Osprey plans, 20+ years ago. It’s still my favorite canoe, as is the pond.
