  1. I agree. I started fishing again as an adult as just something to do while out paddling. I will say that catching fish keeps me in the canoe longer then when not.
  2. I always wanted an All Star, now that I can afford one, they’re Ugly Stix wannahe’s.
  3. Does reading and posting on the forum count?
  4. Looks like the same prices to me unless I missed a lower cost reel, both the SLX dc and the Tatula sv are $199.
  5. Last year I changed a bunch of trebles to singles, other then a hard time finsding the right hooks and small enough spilt rings, it wasn’t a big deal. I do notice more fish just bumping the lures but once they bite they stay on okay. I did not smash the barbs on those. Most of the rest of my smaller spinners with trebles I’ve mashed the barb on. It amounts to all the small lures have either singles, of neutered trebles.
  6. I just read this whole thread thinking it was new. If you want to save money on tackle, don’t frequent a fishing forum. In past winters I would spend about $50 for the next seasons tackle. Today I put everything I want to get in a wishlist on TackleWarehouse, comes out to about $300. That’s what happened from hanging out here. And that’s just the small stuff. This thread convinced me to go back over the list, got to drop some of the new to me techniques. Maybe just gear up to add just 1.
  7. I have a small spool of their Yellow on order, at $30 for 150 yds. I want to try one of the cheaper, if you can call it that, non non fade lines too and compare them later this year. (Almost wrote “next year”) Happy New Year…
  8. Thanks, I put some X9 in the TW cart, they carry what they call Flame Green, I’ll try that.
  9. Tried a spool of Sufix 832 late this year, my 1st 8 carrier. Really like the line but man, does it fade fast. I’m going to try some Hi Vis this spring, being as how the purpose is to better see the line, the quick fade would seem to be a detriment. Does anyone know of good 8 carrier that fades less and comes in a Hi Vis color?
  10. At least you can stand up and walk around, best I can do is stretch my legs out, which doesn’t help the butt.
  11. Even with the memory foam seat in the canoe I can’t sit in it for more then 5 or 6 hours.
  12. Under $50? Once upon a time I used an Ugly Stick without issues.
  13. Walk more, stop eating at night, have another 10 lbs to lose but have hit a wall. fishing… stop backlashing, at least the ones that don’t come out.
  14. I don’t even see a 70 on the Shimano North America page. SLX dc
  15. Looking at the US SLXDC150HG, on the Digitaka site they show a SLXDC70HG. The specs differ in that the Jap model shows .2 oz lighter and it’s a 6+1 bearing vs a 4+1, price diff is less then $20. Am I missing something? Going from the model #s I would have expected the us model to be bigger then the jap one, line capacity is the same. I also thought the bearings count would be the same.
  16. To me it was okay but too much copied from the first. As it pulled in 1.5 billion, I must be in the minority.
  17. Zip. Have a Carhartt but it’s too heavy, prefer them a bit lighter. I have a couple of both types, mostly gifts, it’ll be a long while till I need another.
  18. Wife is from Pennsylvania Dutch country, they were a thing at family gatherings while the in laws lived there. I always passed.
  19. Thanks, it’s from John Winters Osprey plans, 20+ years ago. It’s still my favorite canoe, as is the pond.
  20. Southern Berkshires, this is the 1st year I've had more then one other fisherman on the water, felt crowded. No homes, just solitude.
  21. Another MA, 65-69 is 14.75 for fresh and salt & 5 for the wildlife fund. 70+ is free. Combo is $27, then free @ 70. Plus the 5 of course.
  22. FWIW… After I tried braid on my spinning gear I never went back to mono, the casting was night and day. Tried fluoro on a light setup for a summer then back to braid. If you aren’t going to use it in the weeds I’d go 12 lb. I use power pro normally, but put some Sufix 832 on my ML late in the year to see if it’ll not fray as much. I add a mono or fluoro leader when there are toothy critters in the mix.
  23. Have had dogs and cats most of our lives but I consider myself a dog person. You can own a dog and turn it becomes family, the cats just kind of tolerated us for a while, kind of a temp room mate. When they felt like it they’d disappear, some would come back, some wouldn’t. Had one that brought home snakes all the time, thankfully they were dead when we found them.
  24. We use the same micro spikes hiking, you can easily walk up ice with them.
