  1. I knew the golf season was quite a bit longer at the shore, mostly the cape, but it never occurred to me the fishing season would be longer as well. Here in the hills of western Ma I can get out about mid April - mid Oct. If the ice cooperates I can get out outside those dates but it's pretty much a waste of time, and at $4+ a gallon, a waste of money. After joining this group I'm tempted to take drive to the Ct shore and see how things are down there, although I am kind of chicken putting my canoe in 40 degree waters. Didn't think twice of it when I was younger, but I do now.
  2. Just 10 years ago I would be the only one out on the shallow no motor ponds I fish, not anymore, especially since Covid. I blame the increased fishing pressure half on the advent of the plastic kayak, and the other half on more and more active seniors.
  3. I took the chance on a low cost 100ah group 27 for $349, won't know if it works out for 10 years, but for the $ I'm willing to take the chance. I needed the lightweight of Lithium.
  4. I've heard that about vacation homes in general, more work, little play. Living in one as an only home would be different.
  5. Took a ride up into the Berkshires along the CT line today, all ice except maybe 10' of the edge on the sunny sides, water temp where it was melted, 44 degrees. It'll be a while.
  6. Thanks
  7. For health reasons I wake up every 2 hrs max. I crash between 9 and 10 pm, and get up for the day by 6:30 unless I'm going fishing, then it's up 90 min before sunrise. Don't remember the last time I slept past 7 or stayed up till 11.
  8. Never tried a Mojo but if higher price equals higher quality then you may be right.
  9. Reels I did not verify this list.
  10. Drove past Lk Congamond just west of Springfield today, totally ice free, 3 bass boats and a few shore trout fisherman were out. Think I'll take a ride up into the hills later this week and see how some of the ponds look, chances are they are still iced in. Going to be a while till I get brave enough to put the canoe in.
  11. I have 6'6" St Croix spinning in Medium Fast and notice the Victory casting comes in a Med 6'6", it shows up on the sites drop down, sort of.
  12. A little Weber Kettle and unfortunately a roll of TP.

MA changed to no lead so I've been working on replacing my weights, picked up one of the "frying pan" style containers of Water Gremlin tin round split shot for this coming season but I haven't tried them yet. I use them when I just want to add a touch of weight, usually just to try out a different weight then if it works I'll change to a bullet/different bullet. I tend lose a lot of split shot as I don't crimp them hard.
  14. Same goes for the canoe, this is why I got the Raider last year. 20 years ago I could sit in a canoe all day, now after 4 or more hours I can hardly stand up to get out of the boat when I'm done, tend to cut my sessions short too when I can't take the scrunched up sitting position any more.
  15. Don't think I'd carry a garden tool out onto a golf course, the owner might not look too kindly to it.
  16. Just a guess, but I'd say most folks that pass on lithium either don't know about them or prefer to spend less.
  17. Kind of hard to paddle a Raider all day, don't need to invest in a motor, also less susceptible to wind. I own a Raider and canoes, when I'm in the weeds it's in a canoe.
  18. Appreciate it.
  19. After going pretty stir crazy this winter stuck in MA, I'd like to look into a trip next winter somewhere in FL where the primary reason would be LM fishing. Figuring I'd need to use a guide service and maybe rental as I wouldn't be lugging a boat with me. Can anyone make a recommendation for a good town, lake, or guide, I can look into? Thanks
  20. Don't know what "back in the day" amounts to but my multi piece St Croix's are 15 or so years old and they've come apart.
  21. I can't tell a difference in actual use, not that I've tried to notice one, but I have flung the tip out into the drink more then a few times. I take a 2 and a 3 piece with me when I travel compare to just singles at home.
  22. If it were me, I'd use an A/B switch, actually they are A/B/Both switches, just use the A and B for the motors and the battery as the common, or just use quick connects. Folks say you'll get interference on the fish finder so pick up a small 8 amp 12v battery for it. BPS or Cabela's sells them for $20+/-
  23. For me it's in the functionality, looking great doesn't make it work any better.
  24. One motor at a time?
  25. 3 men in a canoe, in 20 mph winds, with whitecaps, dangerous any time of year away from the shoreline.
