Woody B
I've never understood why people feel the need to have music blasting pretty much 24-7. Many people I work with would bring these speakers to blast music in an already loud shop. Our company had a policy against ear buds. Myself, and others finally persuaded the company to allow ear buds. Now they can just damage their own hearing instead of everyones. Do what you want. You won't be close enough to me fishing for your music to bother me. I get a kick out of music in boats and on motorcycles. It's my belief that if you need music to enjoy a boat, or motorcycle ride you're not doing it right.
Jmilburn76
Only tunes for me is nature, I enjoy the peace and quiet while on the kayak. After doing speech, physical and occupational therapy for around a year after my accident it turns out kayak fishing has been my best therapy mentally.

I don't quite understand this either. Cruising down the road with a Harley's engine growling AND trying to blare White Snake at the same time? Flying down the lake with an outboard growling AND trying to blare ACDC? Can't quite figure that one out. Their hearing must already be shot lol. I will, on occasion, listen to some music in the boat on a very low setting. Primarily when I'm bobber fishing and drinking beer either for crappies or walleyes...because I'm just kind of sitting there waiting. Very rarely do I have any music on while I'm bass fishing. I had a really nice sound system installed in my last new fiberglass bass boat, 2001 19' ChampioN. One day while fun fishing during the summer I dove in for a cool off and could hear the music under water, especially the bass. Never again played music while fishing. I bought a couple of new aluminum rigs, and a used Stratos after that. Never even thought about having adding a sound system. The bass heard all that bass.

I have heard people say that if it is quiet it won't matter. I have also heard people say that it does not matter at all, it won't bother the fish. Thoughts? The OP's question has me wondering. Sound is nothing more than vibrations through a medium like air or water. I wonder if anyone has done a study about how a sound like music affects fish. To me, that is irrelevant. Its a variable that I can control, so I am going to control it. I see it as being very similar to whether fish can see your fishing line and whether or not it will affect the number of bites you get. I don't care. Its simply another variable under my control, whether or not it affects your success or to what degree that is.

I don't like it when I can't hear snakes rustling behind me so if I do earbuds its just one earbud. But I do like listening to good driving music when I'm coming across the dam, can't say I feel different while running the lake.

We do not know if bass can see a fishing line or if they care about it. We do know that bass can feel vibrations as in sound vibrations and we do know radios can produce sound vibrations in a boat. I'd like to know IF the vibrations generated by music played in a boat could be heard/sensed by fish and if it has any effect on them and what that effect might be. Junk Fisherman
I think playing music can hurt/won't help your fishing. I know several smallmouth gurus that turn their electronics off since they feel it negatively affects the bite. I rarely play music when fishing but I listen to podcasts every time I go out. Listening to podcasts entertains me throughout the day and definitely keeps me on the water longer. I never listen to anything the first few hours but I'm always listening to something the second half of my day. Granted, I am wearing ear buds so no one hears what I am listening to and I would be shocked if it somehow affected my fishing. Personally, I think it is rude to blast music while on the water when others are around. There is a popular lock by me and in the summer you might have 10-15 boats waiting to lock through. Usually, you have some boat blasting their music even though most of us don't care for it. Turn it down. Have some respect for others.
