Tried the Yamamoto Ichi worm bank fishing quick after work today. I pitched it into trees. Found it difficult to keep from hanging. Lost three rigs and had two bites that felt like massive fish but must’ve not hooked them good. Felt head shakes on one before shook me off. Back to the drawing board on the proper setup with this worm. Probably need to use a different hook and rod.

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Thrilling. Like trying to extract dragons from a thicket of briars.

Got out for 2.5 hours before dark and managed 10. The watermelon seed super fluke got 3, and the june bug uv speed worm the rest. 6 out of 7 caught on the speed worm were caught on the retrieve…

It's been a thing since I was in grade school and unfortunately hasn't gone a way.

Been having some nice early spring weather and had to take a day off work to test the waters. Haven't moved up yet, but we still crossed paths with quite a few.

They've all been eating well... can't wait to hopefully cross paths with some plus sized girls the next few weeks.

Heck my generation had “shotgun jeans”.

People would hang a perfectly good pair of jeans from a clothes line, blast them with a 12ga and wear the finished product.

Apparently it’s still a thing.

A few yesterday after work.  My first fish of the year on the old drop shot and my first fish on the new Rapala soft plastic swim bait (the judge or something?).  I really like the action on it and the plastic seems soft yet durable!  Jake got his on a t rigged zoom speed craw in the Kentucky special color.

Looks like you overruled Mother's decision on the holey jeans too.  Back in compliance I see.

Hole-less jeans increase your catch by 17%.  Proven once again.

Way to go, Jake! You're a fine apple that fell from a solid tree.

@NorcalBassin: Wow, more fat bass at BR! Way to keep pace with the southern boys. #representtheWest

By any chance, do you sound like Barney Fife?

Still catching a few green fish while chasing the slabs. Most all bass have been shad school related despite temps and timing suggesting spawn time. Got one of those other good ones, too - 2.55 lbs. Mississippi biologists equate a 2.5 lb crappie to catching a 10 lb bass, and a 3.5 lb one to a 15 lb bass (I’ve caught 2 that size this year), which I found interesting.

Great info.  Aren't you in South Carolina though?

Any idea how those numbers relate in a northern state?  Our state record largemouth here in MN isn't even 9 pounds.  So the equivalent of a 10 pounder has been impossible, thus far.

Yeah, SC, but Mississippi is the crappie capital, with Grenada and several other record class crappie fisheries, so I thought it was interesting. MS also holds the world record for white crappie. It’s strictly a comparison of weight class based on the WR, so it’s a universal thing, not region specific…some places/states simply produce more trophy class fish, and geography certainly plays a part to some degree.

@Team9nine: You're catching trophies, one after another. I've caught a few that size, maybe three or four giants, which is what you catch in a couple days.

As someone who was fortunate enough to stomp around northern Mississippi in my youth, I can vouch for the fantastic crappie fishing....However, those two 3.5 monsters you caught in SC dwarf the average Mississippi crappie....at least the several hundred I've caught! Yes, the World Record WC came from the Enid tailwater, but the WR BC came from a pond in East Tennessee by Lionel Ferguson just a couple years back. His was bigger than the Enid Crappie at 5 lb. 7oz

Cold and windy day with water in the low 50s.  Fishing was tough but caught these two with a white/chartreuse spinnerbait.  Smallie is just shy of 2lb and the largemouth came in at 3lb 5oz.

First day out this year marked off as a success.

A lot of work, but a fun afternoon on the water. Found a couple new bass spots, and a handful of crappie roaming around. Bass went almost 4 pounds, and lost one other. Crappie went 2.62 lbs.
