Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Good to see you're still at it, Mike!

Fished a local lake on my lunch break the other day. It’s drained down quite a bit for renovations to the walking path around which is appreciated but has made a bit difficult this year.

Regardless caught two nice fish between 1.5 to 1.75lbs. First on a chatterbait and second on a buzzbait. Pretty confident if I had my kayak I could have had more out in the middle of the lake where the isolated pad clusters are still there. Both bites came from running right over the grass next to isolated pads on the ones closer to the bank.

The big one was a beautiful specimen. I'd love to run into her again when she's 24". I've caught one that was 24" from this lake, but unfortunately, it wasn't built anything like they usually are. 24.5" long and only 14" around.

@Bluebasser86

That green beshemoth you caught is famous. Here she is wearing her superheroine clothes:

I can't imagine boating a 24" bass. I caught two in 2023 over 22" and might have hooked a few that were bigger, but getting those biggest gals out of the weeds and into my canoe...again, I can't imagine doing that. I watched your video and saw her taking you for a ride. I've gone for rides too. Better than any roller coaster.

Hey,

Wanted to chime in and say hi as I have not been on for a while. Decided to cast out after a few months of not fishing and managed to snag a pretty decent peacock bass.

Hope everyone is doing ok in these turbulent times

well I had from about 3:30-5:45 free time, my buddy said he was down to fish a short spell

Got nothing but redbreast sunfish nibbling worm tails off so I caught a few on ultra light to teach them a lesson. Then my buddy sets the hook and the line starts ripping, line that came on the reel he bought on Facebook marketplace 😂 . Here’s how it sounded

Turns out that was a 23” smallmouth !! On a Texas rig finesse worm

After some pics and measurements, it was returned to the deep

Had about ten minutes left and my buddy gave me one of his worms and I put it on a jighead, got an 18.5”

Awesome fish brother!

Wonder what that 23" fish weighed, relative weight chart says between 5 and 6lbs.   Imagine it was your friend's SM PB.    That's a daygum stud fish.   Old fish too.

ETA:  The more I look at that big girl, the more it looks like a Meanmouth, is this just me?    It's pretty like a Meanmouth 😁

Tw-tw-tw-23 inches??? Man, oh, man, oh, man!!! And an 18.5-incher to follow? Nice bellies on both bass.

When does your boat launch again?

I love the handle, @Bazoo. It always makes me smile.

Nice to have you back, @BassSteve

@AlabamaSpothunter, tried the ole spring scale but it was shot, def his biggest SMB. Kind of looked meanmouthish to me but we did let it chill in the livewell for 6-8 minutes while getting the measuring tape and phone ready and wetting the floor of the boat . It got much more tiger striped after that

That's a magnificent fish, wish I could fish N AL. and S. TN during the Falls......sucks for the most part in terms of LGMs down here or anywhere else, but those big brown fish seem to really chew up there in the Fall.   That's when I got my PB SM below Wheeler Dam.

I'd be right back there tomorrow 😎

23 inches?! Sheesh. That’s one of the longer smallmouth I’ve ever seen posted here.

@TnRiver46 how can you post an 18.5 after a 23. That’s slightly embarrassing lol

An 18.5-incher is bigger than any smallie I've caught in Maine.

That actually belongs in another thread but I'm no longer the Photo Police.  It was defunded about 2 months ago.

I'm actually surprised you catch any smallmouth in those bogs.  It doesn't look like smallmouth habitat at all to me.

Went out yesterday to see how I did at breaking down my baitcasters and regreasing cleaning etc. Very little disappointment there. And I caught this little bass while I was doing so. Had a few other superdinks hit the red eye shad but no landings. First mag II fish

I'm with ya! I'm surprised when I catch one too, but here's one from last week and she was about as big as I catch them here. I catch them if there's a rocky bottom instead of a muddy bottom. The rock-bottomed lakes up north are full of them and trout too:

Am I the only one who's gone back a couple times to take another gander at @Bluebasser86's crazy, thick bass and @TnRiver46's buddy's 23-incher?

Keep the big gals comin', guys. It's going to be a long, pitiless Maine winter.

Your buddies fish looks like a meanmouth with those colors on it. Looks like if you closed the mouth, the jawline would be almost past the eye also. Makes me think it's a smallmouth/largemouth mix, which would also explain the size of the fish a little.

It's in the name if it was in fact a MEAN MOUTH.....I got a mean mouth on me sometimes, try getting it to close when it's mean 🤣😁😂
