Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Sending good thoughts to the @Swamp Girl family. Which part of TN?

Oak Ridge.

my hope is you have the opportunity to get to 1500.

I'd need good weather: enough warmth and not much wind. Unfortunately,  the coast of Maine is windy this time of the year. It's double digits most days and doesn't abate most evenings.

I lost three bass in a row this morning simply because my hands were too cold to set the hook. And I had the lures fall out of the basses' mouths in the net nearly every time. I need to remember to take my hand warmers and stuff them into some gloves.

Thanks, Tim!

I will have to purchase a buzzbait, you are certainly catching good ones on them !

I think a lot about the overlap between lures.  For example,  I don't think there's a great difference between a lizard and creature, or even between a crawdad and a lizard. And I think that an underspin is basically an upside down spinnerbait. The reason I resisted using a buzzbait is because I already use ploppers and they're both basically propellers. However, using one has shown me that they differ enough for me to cast both ploppers and buzzbaits. For one, the buzzbait is MUCH more weedless and I caught bass in the weeds with it, plus the buzzbait isn't just a surface lure. It's subsurface too.

@Swamp Girl My thoughts and prayers for your dad, and for you.  Safe travels.

Made my last outing of the year today. I went last night as well caught a few dinks. And caught this guy today. It’s getting colder here finally. And busier with work and holidays. So I made the last trip. Had a wonderful season catching fish. Learned soooo much. Now to sit back for winter and tie some jigs and watch YouTube fishing. I’m gonna make a detailed post about this years fishing soon.

I'm almost done too. I'm actually tuckered. My high-energy dog requires three outings a day and before I even launch, I'm running on fumes.

I too have learned so much from the Bass Resource gang. I still get muddled, but when I do, I simply ask.

@Swamp Girl, small world! That’s not far from home. My grandad worked at oak ridge back in the atom bomb days

No kidding. I wish I had time for us to connect.

Water temps dropped down to 60-63 this weekend. Air temp this morning was a brisk 43 degrees : )

They were not as active, but did manage a 19.5" | 3lb-13oz., and a 17.5" | 2lb-12oz. today....both on a 10' blue-fleck power worm, t-rigged. I just LOVE fishing t-rigged worm.

Side note: The Ulterra has been acting funny for the past month or so. It will randomly lose connection with the remote, saying, "motor not found," then connect back and set speed to Zero. Re-paired the remote, powered on and off. Thought it might be the power connection...so used a little dialectic grease in there. Helped for a little, but yesterday it was even losing spot-lock, and disconnecting with remote, and setting power back to Zero. Got home, took the TM apart and made sure all the connections were in there nice and tight. This morning all was well...not issues, no disconnections. Don't know what I did, but it was flawless today from 7 AM until Noon. No issues.

I like the way you are thinking @A-Jay.

Replaced the remote battery earlier this summer.

@DaubsNU1 it could simply be the colder temps.  I've got a couple relatives that had Ulterras and they have issues when it gets colder because of all the moving parts.  They put up with it for one season and then went back to the Terrova.

Quite simply, the more small intricate parts it has, the more can go wrong.

This is the first issue I have had with my Ulterra. Been rock solid for 2+ years. My brother's Ulterra has been very issue free for five years now. He actually has a Terrova as a "backup" and I believe only had to use it once.

Yes, lots of small intricate parts and electronics mean more to go wrong.

Bass side of the last striper day

First fish of the morning ate a keitech/flashy swimmer in the shallow grass.

2nd and third doubled up on the A rig, one popped himself free before I could get a decent pic. I lost the rig on the next cast, October curse strikes me again.

This poor gill got a single treble point directly between the eyes and died instantly, bummed me out I don't like harming fish for sport.

This makes sense. There are times when I wish I could buy a simpler car. The average car now costs $50,000. A simple new car costing $25,000 would work for me.

No pics, because I wasn’t taking pics of l’il fellers. Two on a spinnerbait, one on a bladed jig and one on a Zoom Trick weightless TR. Had one bite a jig but it was smaller than these lol. 56° this morning. Thought it would be some hot fishing. Not to be.

But…I got some great practice and laying a jig right where I wanted it!

It happened!  I had a free day.

First bass since Sept. 1!

Then, a couple more about that size hanging around the still-standing remnants of spatterdock.

....and one good one, 4.15lb:

Great way to end your year. I conceded to winter today too. I was soooooo cold the last time I fished. Now we turn our gaze to the South and its many fine anglers.

Fishing is still going for me, but getting day to day. I’ve lost more fish last two trips, which is really frustrating. The forecast for “10-15 from…” has been more pushing 20 with higher gusts. I just love detecting the weird bite you get in the wind slow cranking a paddle tail. A lot of fish come from behind and inhale it, causing them to push your line. First trip was very frustrating, but managed a few nice bass averaging 17” and a lake trout

Today it was sunny and W winds to start, but slowly shifted SSW and increased. I landed a few bass that were very football, a coho salmon and a big walleye. I tried slow-rolling a spinner bait for a big one, but nada. Also tried a jerk bait, but only had one bass shadow it. The coho did smoke it on the pause after an aggressive cadence. Slow cranking paddle tails was the best again. I lost my first fish of the day(for no reason) and it was big. Thinking a pig smallie, but possible it was another good sized walleye

Cool mixed bag, Jon. I'm glad you're still out there, still catching bass, still representing the North.

Thanks Katie, I’m a man that LOVES variety. I should have a bit more time for bass. One thing about living North is while our seasons eventually end, we get that “haven’t caught a bass since fall” excitement come spring. It’s different up here, as winter loses its grip and spring pushes to shine through…we have that eager anticipation to look forward to
