BTW, is it set in stone that the lake will be drained ten feet down next year?  Is the lake still going to stay open for fishing?  I hadn't heard anything about that till now.

Not 100%, but it was becoming more likely when I left. They are replacing the spillway, so permitting and everything needs to be done well in advance. Lake would get pulled down immediate after Labor Day and held that way until the project was complete, or the first of the year. I'm guessing the lake won't be closed, per se, but the boat ramp and most docks would be unusable. Could still drag no a car topper or canoe and be fine though, I'm guessing. That's what's been done in he past. Any idea when Marina is closing this year?

I know a guy (Jim and Shirley) that lives on a main lake point that has 12 feet of water 5-6 feet in front of his dock, and he gave me permission to pull my aluminum boat up there last time the water was pulled down, and said I could use it again if needed in the future.

The boat is light enough that two or three people can lift it up, so it really can't get stuck.

Not sure when the marina will be closing, I don't think it's been announced yet but I could be wrong.  I am personally looking forward to when the marina is closed and the security boats are winterized, they've really been cracking down on driving in the wrong direction.  Even just fishing offshore and using the trolling motor, staying in relatively the same area, is getting people warnings.  Not that it's stopped me from fishing offshore, I just have to make sure to not move the boat much.  But you can forget making repeated trolling passes both ways over structure.

It's a semi-private lake, so it has different rules than others.

caught my personal best smallmouth 1/2 hour before this drum hit.

thought I was going to break my record twice in one day.

it was not the fish I was expecting , but still put up a good fight.

it weighed 5.5 lbs.

Wyco? I used to sight fish them with live crawdads out there when the bass weren't biting, then give them to people on the bank. There's some giant drum in that lake.

I have had my heart broke by them so many times when I used to fish the tournaments out there. I used to catch a bunch of them on bladed jigs and finesse jigs.

Caught a pretty nice shellcracker earlier in the year. I wear XL and XXL gloves if it gives you an idea.

Bass fishing was less than stellar yesterday so after a couple hours of catching 13 inchers, I hit up the gills. Caught a ton and sorted thru a lot of 6-7 inchers to take home some 7-8 inchers. Anyway, I smoked a few of them on a cedar plank. Kept 6 fillets to make a cracker spread. 1 package of cream cheese, a few tablespoons of mayo, finely chopped green onions, and the bluegills. Delicious

Change of pace this weekend by chasing crappie. Right up there with bass fishing in my book, at least the way I prefer to chase them. Had great weather and company - always a nice bonus ?

Believe it's "popsicle". Different pictures show the accent color as more pinkish or whitish depending.

Atlantic Slammin Season is Here!  Been trying to catch one of the bigger pink salmon that are fresh in the river, but so far I haven't had any luck with them.  Also tried for some late night kings a few days ago and went 0/1.  Had a great time with a nice screamer though.  Should be able to hit that creek again sometime this week.  Of the few I've been privileged to land I've given some to the neighbors and the rest to different recipes.  I usually grill or bake them, but am excited to try some salmon soup tomorrow.  It's looking like a great fall.  Fish On everybody.

Almost forgot.  What's cool is the university puts on a fish cam under one of the closed off turbines so you can get an idea of what kind of fish are present and how much are around.  Most on the cam are atlantics and pinks, but sometimes you'll see a whitefish or king on.  They live stream it so usually you have to jump from the current video to a different link in a few days, but it is excellent quality.

Back after the crappie this afternoon. Bite has been really good with the cooler summer weather. Should only get better with fall approaching.

Is that over on CL? Thought about going there today for bass, but decided against it because of the labor day boat traffic.  Went to one of the gravel pits I used to frequent instead, and got a bunch of bass fishing from shore.  Jerks and shaky heads, on the old ramps.

Coon - better quality at Cat, and less boat traffic, but didn't want to drive that far.
