And I'll gladly fish in some crazy weather/conditions. Â Too bad. You do not need to throw trebles at night but with a little practice & some intestinal fortitude, for every chunk you can catch in the summer during the day - there's a decent chance you can get 3 at night. And you'll most likely have the majority of the water to yourself. A-Jay 6 Quote

Good bug spray helps though that is for sure.  The thing that freaks me out the most is when a beaver comes up and slaps it's tail about 10' from me.  That will get the blood flowing a little, well that and the bats that seem to enjoy chasing m baits.  I have stopped fly fishing at night for that reason.  after having to unhook one of them i figured this wasn't the best idea lol 1 Quote

My special night fishing equipment consist of a good headlamp, bug spray, a body of water I'm familiar with, and a few rods rigged with single hooked baits. No need for those blacklights or any other special gear. I prefer it over daytime fishing when it's hot for just the reason Ajay said, more quality fish and they're much more aggressive at night normally. 2 Quote

BradGinKC Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Caught this last week just before sunset. Took me by surprise. I wasn't expecting a flathead to hit a topwater bait. It did put up a good fight.  12 Quote

Between the humidity at night totally soaking the lens and the light I need to make it, blinding me - they all end up looking more like a cross between The Blair Witch Project & something that was left on the cutting room floor of a bad Jacques Cousteau episode.  So needless to say, it's been tough sledding.  I'll keep at it and eventually I hope to get something decent & worth posting. Stay Tunes sports fans. Looch Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Is this a spotted bass? or just a Largemouth? Lm are kind of rare in this area. I caught 6 "bass" today, 4 smallmouth, 1 rock, and this guy. His mouth is why I think it may be a spotted, more like a smallmouth's mouth Quote

mrpao Posted July 14, 2017 Posted July 14, 2017 That's a largemouth. Spotted bass of that size is usually much more slim. Plus spotted bass will have a rough patch on the tongue. Quote
frosty Posted July 14, 2017 Posted July 14, 2017 This is a spotted bass. Notice the size of the tail, the jaw, the slightly different coloring, and the dots on the belly. 1 Quote

Bugs in your eyes & up your nose. Bats hitting your line, triggering useless hooksets. And That cursed Beaver - Blasting it's tail on the water 3 feet from your head causing heart palpitations & the need for new pair of draws. Good Times. A-Jay 4 Quote

Looch Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 fishing was good today for about 90 minutes, then they turned off. Got 2 wipers, a nice 1 lb 13oz smallmouth, 1 nice barely legal walleye, and 3 little cigar size saugers. All released  the nicer wiper tore my gulp bait up. the jig ripped down into the minnows head. 1 fish and it was basically ruined for that style, I hooked it through head only and caught the walleye and a sauger 4 Quote
Russ E Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 using a Ned Rig in shallow water this 6 pound drum nearly pulled the rod out of my hands when it hit. this guy was fun on an otherwise slow day. Â Â 7 Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted July 18, 2017 Super User Posted July 18, 2017 Got into some really big bluegills over the weekend. Had a blast with the ultra-lite tackle, and we were reeling in gills this big every cast. 8 Quote
MassBass Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 This is from earlier in the summer. 3-4 chain pickerel. 8 Quote
Looch Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 nicest hybrid I caught this week. Â Had a great week with smallmouth, with a couple pigs. One I could only describe as a football, not long, just fat. Greediest fish in the river. Here is a decent sized one I caught on a 3/4 oz white/chartreuse bucktail hair jig that I throw to target hybrids. Â Walleye continue to hit right before it gets dark. Not sure where sauger have gone but I only caught 1 this week and I'm not complaining. This is a 14 or 15 inch walleye, caught on a 1/4oz jig and gulp minnow, normally use 1/8oz but needed extra weight to get my bait to where I needed it. Â 6 Quote

Looks more like a channel cat than a bullhead in that picture. A sure way to tell would be if the tail was forked or not. A forked tail would be a channel, straight tail is a bullhead. They sure can smash a topwater though.   Took my oldest boy exploring in a creek for the first time. Caught a variety of fish, but the spawning longears are awesome looking fish. 8 Quote
Looch Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 ha oddly enough I caught a young flathead on a jig+plastic last night. berkley havoc paddletail thing, bobby lane design, bama bug color  Been catching a lot of channel cats too this year on plastics(gulps mostly). Most of them have been when the water is really muddy. Haven't got a bullhead on a lure yet, did get a brown bullhead on trout doughbait. Maybe they are spawning if you got it on topwater. Bullheads are amazing parents compared to most other fish 5 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 27, 2017 Global Moderator Posted July 27, 2017 Ned rigged a juvenile flathead. It was a welcomed change of pace from the drum I was hammering on. 7 Quote
Looch Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Drum have been hitting like crazy here too, a guy I fish with was using live emerald shiners and the odd 2-3" gizzard shad(he was just dipnetting them out the river)Â under an egg bobber and he caught 40+ drum in 4 hours today, only caught 9-10 desirable fish(smallies, walleye, hybrids). Drums and catfish have been most of what I been seeing since we got rain a few days ago and watter got muddy 1 Quote
