Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread

Caught my first bowfin in a few years at a pond that I've been fishing at for over a year. I didn't even know that they were in there. He absolutely crushed the whooper plopper. I had to replace the rear treble and split ring because of him.

Then a new PB wiper on a jerkbait later that day, 11.2 pounds.

If you're talking about @YoTone's fish, appears to be a snakehead.

Mike, bullseye snakehead are all over Florida ! Which are non native

Bowfin are very similar and are native to North America.

Im not sure how snakehead were introduced but I do know they are all over the country and Florida is prime territory for them !

Google Florida snakehead, and find a canal near you that holds them !

I think it's a different species of snakehead that lives in the NE that grow larger than the Bullseye but I could be wrong. We don't have them here, just other wonderful invasives like zebra mussels, Asian carp, white perch, and Eurasian Water Milfoil.

Record bullseye found in Broward county FL.

I guess the record for northern snakehead is just over 18lbs. The bullseye was found electroshock at over 14lbs with the record being just over 12 by hook and line. So. Not too much difference.

@soflabasser can go break this record :D

When out to a brackish pond by my house to test out some new lures.  Kept getting bumped on like every retrieve so I hiked back to the car and retrieved the single inline spinner I had with me.

Caught about 24 white perch, maybe eight of which were around this size.

and maybe ten slightly smaller like him;

The rest were super small dinks that I am always amazed can even get the hook in their mouths.

There were a bunch of guys fishing for them with bait on the other side of the pond and having little luck.  One of them wandered over after seeing me land like 3 in 4 casts with a 5 gallon bucket in one hand and two tallboys of Highlife in the other.  A deal was struck and everyone walked away happy.

While getting rid of the Highlife back in the woods, I ran across these guys;

The pond is full of carp, so I assume that is what they are from?  A buddy of mine is a biologist and always appreciates it when I bring him dead stuff from the woods, so they are now proudly on display in my yard until he picks them up.

When I first got into fishing those Trout Magnets were my bread and butter lure.  I really need to leave the bass rods at home and have a panfish day soon.

Have you ever used the slightly larger Trout Slayer lures?  They look like tiny craws and I found that the small increase in weight really helped casting distance and accuray in mild winds.

The manufacture recommends adding a split shot or two a foot or so up so the lure can move across the bottom, but I have almost as much, if not more luck letting it make a slow gliding fall into holes.

I've been leaving the crappie alone lately and just targeting some bigger blue gills. This is an average one which came in at 8.5", just love the colours on her.  Hoping to break the 12" mark over the coming days as I enjoy a week off and get to do some more fishing between the house errands that just never seem to end.

I've been fishing an Angler's Choice 1.75" Crappie Fry on a 1/64oz jig head with red bleeding hooks under a Thill slip float. The colour I've been using the most is called Bionic Tiger, a two tone chartreuse and orange with a thin triangular shaped tail which quivers when shaken.  There is an additive added to make it react with UV light which I have yet to put to the test but will be doing so this weekend.

Next up for me will be some pike fishing for a couple of weeks before walleye opens in May.

Cheers, hope that your spring is going well!

Not exactly what I was looking for while I was trying to fill my limit during my tournament on Sunday, but it was my first spotted muskie that I've ever caught, so I was pretty proud of it.

I've never caught a crappie on an artificial worm... Craziest thing was probably a 5" swimbait. But never a worm.

Everytime I hook a crappie on bass gear it just gets dragged along the surface lol.
