Just wanted to drop in and say hi to you all. I'm not as active 'round these parts anymore. Haven't bought anything in about 5 month. Haven't had the boat out in almost 5 months. Really sucks, but it'

Got a kick out of these huge markdowns.

Looks like the buy 5/get 5 era for winter 2018 has come to an end at DSG; saw a sign up today that said buy 4 get 1.

I seem to recall years when they'd progressively decrease the prices or sweeten the deal over the month of January, but maybe I'm just remembering that wrong.

Was an interesting sale period: saw one guy loading up like a maniac; he told me he was loading up to sell on facebook (said he had to stock up to "make a living"... interesting...).

Then went into another store where there were two or three of everything (never five) and the clerk in charge strolled over and proudly announced to me he'd cleaned house for himself the week before but graciously left a few "deals" for the customers...

Anyway, looks like its officially buy 4 get 1, but the stores may want the gear gone, so if you ask the right associate or manager the right way, they'll still make it buy 5 get 5.

It is simply a myth to me as I never saw the 5 for 5 deal at my stores.

I guess mythology/fantasy beats being the angler that lives near the Illinois store where the sale was within reach, and yet so far away because it was cleaned out of anything good by the store's own employees.

The BPS Spring Classic flyer is available.

Interestingly, some of the things I was looking at a week or two ago are actually marked UP in the Spring Classic flyer. One specific example is the Lowrance HOOK2 7x Tripleshot. Was $399.99 and is marked as $429.99 in the Spring Classic flyer.

I am also disappointed that the PQ2 reels will be $84.99. I was really hoping for something closer to $50-$60. Oh well, maybe a couple of deals will stick out at me yet.

BPS continually shoots themselves in the foot! Some of the major drawing power of their Spring Classic sale used to be that you could get awesome deals on a lot of quality stuff from reels and rods to lures and electronics but the past few years they have removed all of the name brand goodies and replaced them all with their own BPS brand and while some of their brand products are good most of them are a crap shoot so they are losing more and more customers each year because of that. The one silver lining was that you could always bank on getting a Pro Qualifier for about $50 and most people love those reels but now it appears even that deal is gone as nobody will make it a point to go to BPS for an $85 PQ2 when that's only like $10 - $15 off regular price...too many other options out there. I don't know if they have somebody new in charge of their marketing strategy but whatever it is it's not working like it used too!

You can still get a PQ2 for $64.99 if you trade a rod or reel in. Fortunately I have a Black Max rod that is shorter than it was originally, and BPS will accept trade-ins of rods with replaced tips.

Unfortunately, it would cost me $40 in gas to get there and back to save $20  :-)

Yeah but you used to be able to get them for like $50 - $60 without a trade-in.

For any of you big and tall gents, Sierra Trading Post has Simms Hyalite rain pants on clearance for $29.00.  XL and XXL.  That's a steal.

Also, does TW have any sort of spring sale? As in XX% of purchases, not certain items like their last crappy sale

TW sales suck...when's the next one?

Why shop there?  For me, its a combination of selection AND prices.  Sales are nice, but .... unless there's one coming up in the next week or so, I don't generally try to plan purchases around it.  Their prices are good now.

Memorial Day, 4 July, and Labor Day, were sale times, IIRC from years past.

You buy, I fly

I've been using the ebay codes for rod/reel purchases from ALF - even though they're in Indiana, all of my purchases have shipped from Hattiesburg, and makes it 1-day shipping for me.

I hear ya. trust me im all about getting the most for my money. I wouldnt buy there if i could get what i need elsewhere. I always try to find ways to buy gift cards at discounts then use them during sales to double dip to get more off. I HATE paying retail, and i usually dont. Problem is, the places i can get discounts (Dicks, bass pro etc) cost more than say ebay. So ill buy on ebay. Im asking about TW because i need to pick up an MS Slammer so i was hoping to get some $ off. I have a list of specific baits im buying, so i am looking around now / looking ahead.

They've always had gift cards 10% off for Father's day (June). Use them @ 15% off Memorial day sale.

Wouldn’t it be smarter to use them for their Black Friday sale at 20% off?  Memorial Day is 11.5 months after Father’s Day...

meant 4th of July. I keep a stash of gift cards for every holiday, including black friday and 25 days christmas

Fishusa is currently running buy 4 packs of power worms get $10 rebate for those of you looking and $5 back when you buy 2 gulp products.

That's a long time to wait, lol. Looking to buy before ice out. Oh well. Ebay it is.

That's always my personal mental battle. Is the 10 or 20 bucks I might save on an order worth me not being able to use the baits until the sale, which might be in a couple months or more. I rarely have the patience to do that so I think the gift card + sale trick is most useful for buying bulk items that you know you will use, line bulk spools of line, hooks, split rings, other terminal tackle, and your favorite soft plastics.
