Found my first Jackhammer a couple weeks ago.

 

KVD squarebills and Ozark Trail squarebills are making up 90% of the baits I'm finding this year it seems like. The Jackhammer and the rest of the baits I found that morning.

I've found a bunch of those Ozark Trail squarebills. The only reason I pick them up now is so I won't pick them up again the next time I see them lying on the ground. Those lures are a good argument against the availability of cheap lures. If they weren't available, I would be finding some nicer lures. lol

That's the same reason why I pick them and broken lures up, I know I'll see them again and they'll fool me again. Better to pick them up the first time and be gone than keep spotting them and getting my hopes up.

 

I use to complain because I always found KVD squarebills. Now I find the Ozark Trail ones probably as much as KVD squarebills. Shouldn't have complained about the KVD ones I guess.

Totally understand.  I have carried long reach pruning shears to cut out baits that are too high to reach.  Have had some nasty looks until I explained I was protecting birds from the sharp treble hooks.

Yeah, that's about what I decided. It's in the top of my office closet living in a Plano box full of other junk I've either found or bought that isn't worth keeping with me.

We have a ton of night tourneys here, so early mornings are good times to find things easily accessible

Anyone know what kind of swimbait this is? It had a couple of small chrome hooks when I found it, but when I tried it out, it got sideways at any speed other than wide open, so I put bigger hooks on it. It’s much better, but it still gets sideways.

 

 

Found a Whopper Plopper 75 in ‘loon’ color with a weird double knot. Anyone know what kind of knot that is? I don’t understand the logic there. I guess they’re thinking if the first knot breaks, the second one will hold? This one had about 30 feet of line with it when I found it, so the knot wasn’t the problem here.

 

I don’t know about that loon color. Kind of weird. No loons around here. No luck with it so far. I might just make it all black with a sharpie.

 

One of my most successful colors for WP’s is a ‘Blue Blood’ I found that was so old and nasty that it was almost black. I’ve used it so much and caught so many fish on it that the stain is getting worn off. I wish I knew of something I could dip it in to make it darker again. Here it is above another one that I found that was almost new.  The picture doesn't really capture the difference very well.

Looks like a variation of a Rapala Knot

I've found 3 whopper ploppers in 3 weeks, 2 90s and 1 110.  I also found a Falcon Bucoo SR 7' 4" H/F and a Daiwa Tatula SV TWS 8.1 when I saw the FishLab Rattle Toad that was tied onto it floating a few inches below the surface. Amazingly enough, a guy I'd guided once before emailed me and told me the story on how he'd lost it when he rolles his kayak the day before I was there. Got it, and the 110 plopper that he also lost, back to him.

I think its a Cabela's brand swimbait they sold a few yrs back. Maybe 3-5 yrs ago.

Found a Lucky Craft Sammy in a tree and used it for 3 years until I lost it.  Caught my PB spotted bass with it, 4-12.

Two finds this week. 

 

The first is my own pair of hemostats - lol. Got home from a bank walking trip yesterday and realized they weren't in my pocket. Back out this morning to the same pond knowing that I had to have dropped them somewhere...sure enough, right where I used them and thought I slipped them back into my back pocket. 

 

 

The other find from the res earlier this week. Not sure I'll be brave enough to try and reuse all the excess line as leader material, but the crankbait is near new, so I'll certainly chunk it around just to see what happens.

 

It's almost the best time of year for finding lures. The shoreline weeds are dying and the leaves are falling revealing all the lost baits from this summer. Found a few while I was fishing this morning.

That swivel snap is bigger than that crank bait. lol

I meant to take a separate picture of that snap. That's a 1.5 sized crank it's hook on and it was barely floating because of the weight of the snap. Pretty confident that bait never caught anything before it was lost.

Plopping bait number ???? out of a tree this morning. Also found a Lucky Craft squarebill, Fat Free Fingerling, Heddon Moss Boss, Wiggle Wart, and Strike King 2.5.

Once lost but now found. A Strike King Diamond Shad was sticking up outta the sand. It was missing its finish, both hooks and the rear split ring. I pulled it from the sand and shook it and it sang to me that sweet lipless song we all know and love. It is now ready to be lost again ? watch out bass!!

You guys make me jealous with these pics. Very few people around here even know how to fish for bass...I'm lucky if I find half a dozen baits a year. Do find lots of bobbers and terminal stuff...also pliers are not uncommon. Also with the moron bandwagon corona crowd coming onboard this year I've found like 4 rods and reels. Never took them...all cheap Wal-Mart junk.

I took my boys out for a day of lure hunting. Not as successful as I'd hoped but I have a feeling the heavy shore pressure might have caused a few of the baits I normally find floating in the weeds to be found before I got to them.

Not as successful as you’d hoped? That right there is more than I’ve found in my life. All you’ll find around here is line and bobbers. I’ve grown to despise bobbers. 

Wow! I find a lure every time I'm out. But, wow! That's some serous fishing pressure @Bluebasser86. Those two chrome Model A's, I wonder if they came from the same tree?! I can still hear the cussing that might have caused. ?

 

Ah, reminds me of a lure rescue I made. I arrived at a pond to do some filming and saw 3 guys staring up into a tree. One of them had hung his spinnerbait up there. I jumped out of my truck, extended my 20ft video pole, walked up and said, "I just got a call. Someone's hung their spinnerbait in a tree. That must be you." And I fetched it down for him.
