Just received the Dobyns 736CB glass today and I couldnt be happy with it.

 

I was going to pair it up with the Scoripin 70HG (7.2.1) but I am afraid that I wouldn't have much line on it. 

Not only that, It might be too fast for me. 

 

What ratio do you guys use to keep the bait at the strike range. 

 

 

Happy or Happier ?   I'm running a 7.3 to 1 and it's fine with a chatterbait. Not much resistance to deal with.

7.5 with 31 inch per turn.  The reel just kinda wound up on my spinner/ chatter rod.  At first it felt a little fast, but I'm completely comfortable with the way it feels now.  Matter of fact, I had a chance to swap it for a 28 inch per turn reel and decided not to.  While I think either would be great, I've come to prefer turning the handle a bit slower

6.4 or 7.3 depending on which rod I'm throwing it on. 

I like a 6.3:1

I use a chatterbait with an unusually high amount of resistance, so if I use my 7.1's or 8.5's I run it too shallow and also tire out faster.

 

The 6.3 does the job perfectly.

Was using a 7.3. Didn't like it. Changed to 6.3. IPT matters big time. I felt like it needs to be 24-27 IMO. My own issues were it was rising to fast and I felt like I had more control with the slower 6.3. 

Chatterbaits are my favorite to throw. Whether I'm burning them in or slow rolling them I use a Lew's Speed Spool 7.1:1 gear ratio. I love it! ?

Looks like the idea speed is 6.2.1. 

I want something that is a small profile at 100/150 size. If I could use the 50 size. I would but I am afraid I would run out of line. 

 

Am thinking about the Curado K or Curado 200I 6.2.1  

With few more bucks. I can move up to Chronarch CI4+.

Or save a few bucks and get a tatula ct 6:1

I just cant just use the TWS T-wings - It just doesnt look/feel right on me. I just dont know.

6:3:1. I like to slow roll chatterbaits along the bottom. I hardly ever burn them. 

6.3:1 or 6.8:1 for me

I use 6:3 to 1 for chatters, (and most other things) but pretty much any reel will work. Stop being afraid and get out there with something and see if it works or doesn't for YOU, that's really the only thing that matters. Oh and IMNSHO a glass rod isn't really the way to go with a chatter, but again, go out there and see how it does for you.

I only use 7.1:1 and faster BC reels anymore. My opinion on reel speed is you can always slow a fast reel down, but there's only so fast you can go with a slow reel. And why crank more times in a day than you have to? Hell, anymore 7.1:1 is about average.

He was referring to the Scorpion 70HG.  It holds 85 yds. of 12# line.  Go to a larger size line, and you *might* be able to spool it on a cast, though I doubt it.

I see. Edited my response. I understand that. The Academy H2O Xpress Tac-40 has a shallow spool. It claims to hold 100 yds of 12 lb mono, but I spooled the whole reel with the 30# braid that was on half of the reel I replaced. I mean that reel had backing with braid on top.

i like a 7.3 it seems fine to me .My main reel i use for this is a Daiwa tatula ct r

Certain trailers make a chatterbait rise. The gear ratio shouldn’t matter.

My point is that it's easier to control the bait and depth with the 6.3. Gear ratio does matter, that's why it is easier to keep a buzzbait on top with a 7.3. Bring a chatterbait in on 8.1 and see the difference between that and 6.3. I would rather have a slower gear ratio than adjust my retrieve rate. Easier to control. I also typically use a split tail or fluke which would add little to no rise on the bait.
