Just got back from a guys weekend at my buddies hunt camp. Spent two days in the bush, 8 guys on older, smaller snowmobiles bushwhacking our own trails wherever we wanted to go, and enjoying some good eats and a few adult beverages at the camp at night. Glad we shoveled off the camp roof on Friday when we got out there before this rain came, I took a pic of the camp before we shoveled it, and had one on my phone from the exact same weekend last year, bit of a difference in the amount of snow!

Had to make a tunnel to get back in after shovelling the roof. Surprisingly, it was still excellent sledding conditions in the bush, hardly anyone got stuck too bad. There’s absolutely no base at all though, so it should melt fairly quick whenever it does finally start to warm up. 

^wow. First time seeing the sunshine in several days here! The wind is howling so I fear I may be grounded for today.

Rained all day yesterday. Winds have been 30-40 all day with 50 gusts. Was 33* when I woke up and steadily dropping. Going to be single digits tomorrow am.

We pretty much got hammered yesterday and over night.

This as well as all the surrounding counties closed all roads to include major highways.

High winds (40-60) along with blowing & drifting snow caused white out conditions everywhere.

And yet, the Peeps still headed out into the insanity.

Several multi-vehicle pile ups had the few emergency crews these rural areas have, scrambling to help.

Officials used social media repeatedly pleading with people to stay off the roads & indoors.  

Trees & power lines down everywhere - we lost power on & off all night but remarkably, we still have it now.

Looking out the front window if the snow drift that's 3/4 the way up the side of my home is any indication, I'm expecting this will be at least a 4-5 hour, and 2 gas tanks full, snow removal evolution.

Not much snow, but we are still getting 60+ mph winds.  Schools closed today.

Schools closed today around here too, mainly due to the icy roads. We only got around 2-3” but that was enough to plug our road up in spots where it’s open field. There were a couple spots I had to hit the gas and not let off until I got through the snow drifts. Thankfully we didn’t lose power and only about 50k lost power in the entire state, there are crews from Kansas, Kentucky, SD, and a couple other states here so the outage should be short lived for the ones without power.

How much did you end up getting? 

3-6 for us tomorrow night into Wednesday morning. These poor kids will be in school until the end of July at this rate. They’re averaging 2-3 snow days a week.

Hard to tell with all the blowing & drifting action but I guess somewhere between 8-12  maybe a little more. 

And I think the Kids will get over it -

I like the idea of the extended school year because it keeps the lakes quiet just that much longer

Cold for another 10 days as of today's forecast with snow tomorrow and possibly another snow storm I'll send your way on Friday/Saturday

I hope everybody warms up sooner than expected, we are looking a ok for the next couple days with hopefully rapidly receding water

we are not looking too good here in the kansas city area for the next 10 days. any fishing will have to be on power plant lakes. The local cold water lake was supposed to open this weekend, but it is half iced over, including the marina. probably will not open for another week or two.

Coldest and snowiest February on record for my area - 4 snowiest month on record...ever. 

 

Since Feb 2, every day has had temps below freezing (the norm is less than 7 days).  Current forecast for the next 10 days calls for below freezing lows, and highs around 40 (about 10-15 degrees below normal).

4-7” tonight thru tomorrow mid day so that could mean another two snow days for the kids! At least one. Average high is 39 this time of year, with the exception of A couple of days it hasn’t gotten above freezing. 

 

The groundhog hog needs to be fired!

It's probably going to be off...our two-week forecast has us approaching freezing for highs - while the average for that same time is near 40.

 

I think ice-out is going to be late again this year - average ice-out date is April 14...just hopefully not as late as last year - May 5

It’s not looking too good for this little varmit. In my neck of the woods he’d be a done deal!

Ok ok I won’t complain watching the news and they said Marquette Michigan has had 202” of snow this year. That’s 16 feet of snow southern boys! 

 

Accordingly, we had 16 cases of "Cold Paw" this morning.

Fenway went down like she was shot . . .

Must not really feel too good.

I see we’re getting “frigid” again next week according to our local weather guesser. He also said below average temps for March and possibly part of April. I know that’s getting the cart before the horse but d**n it I’m ready to go fishing!

You can eat groundhog, as long as you don’t make a stew

Ever since that vermint poke his head out of it’s hole we’ve been getting snow and frigid temps.

More snow on the way tonight and single digit temps this week for our nightly lows.
