What's everyone's favorite shakeyhead. I usually use 1/4 to 1/2 ounce. Was looking at the megastrike pro standup head. Thoughts?

I was thinking of trying the Megastrike one too.  It's on sale at Sieberts, so I'll add that to my order.  Like @GreenPig, I've had some really good times fishing with a Spot Remover (I use a Trick Worm, though) on rocky bottoms.  That one works well with a 'lift slightly, then let fall' retrieve, rather than a 'deadstick, then shake' retrieve for me.  I have some Owners too, and I've caught some fish on them, but I'm not as happy with them.  They have a good screw keeper, though.

I have some of the megastrike shaky heads and they will get the job done. I have a bunch of brands from Owner with the screw lock (Not my favorite, but I like the really light ones they make with a big hook) and last year found some Missle Warlock shaky jigs on clearance, and I really like them. I also like the Yum Pumpkin head, and VMC makes a good one as well.

 

I do have a favorite worm that I purchased on clearance from TW a few years ago, and It seems to work better for me than any other straight tailed worm...The Big Bite Squirrel tail worm. Something about that bulb on the tail and the fat to thin taper seems to generate more strikes. 

 

I also really like using the Zoom Curly tailed shaky worms. For the price, its tough to beat the Zoom finesse worms, but then again, a senko or  Rib snake are 2 great worms that work well on any rig. Kut Tail worm, I use the BPS version which are inexpensive and come heavily salted.

 

I also like to throw a baby brush hog on a shaky rig, or a chigger craw, or Strike King Rage craw, menace etc.

Megastrike Shake2 Pro Model is my favorite. Been using it for several years no problems, good hookups and they stand up baits better than any others I've used.

I like 6th Sense shakey heads.

You don’t have a problem with hookups with the small hook on the buckeye and a bigger worm like the shakey magnum?

I fish Spot Removers in 3/16 and 1/4 ounce with a full size trick work and have never had an issue with hook sets. I'll have to try the 6th Sense Devine. I have a similar head I found in California only sold in a family owned shop.  Owners are really good as well.

I tex pose my hook and haven't had any hook up problems. If I  fish a worm thicker than the magnum shakey Zoom I use a Strike King Tour Grade Mag Jig Head. I'm fishing braid to fluorocarbon, so I'm not dealing with much line stretch.  Full mono or fluorocarbon could have hook up problem due to stretch but it's not likely. 

Strike king football head is what I use. Dont care for the screw locks. Wish I could make my own. In my opinion no ones makes a perfect shaky jig head

I do a lot of reading and research, price checking, and stretch every dollar I can for a level of quality I need my fishing equipment to perform at.

 

With that said, I prefer the Big Bite Baits Gamakatsu Fin Twist.  I get a good hook, all the sizes I need, and a stout screw lock.

The last few years I've been using "The Closer" by Custom Cast Lures. I don't think I've had a single fish spit the hook as long as I get it set in them. Great hooks and a good action.

I believe you may be too heavy in your shakey head jig weight selection : A shakey head jig weight is normally in the 3/32nd. oz. , 1/8th oz. and 3/16th oz. range (for deeper water OR wind concerns) ... I'd say 90% of shakey head users use the 1/8th oz. weight as this allows the right action on the fall as well as the ability to work a shakey head properly and not get hung up as much versus using 1/4th oz. weight (really only reserved for deeper water) ; above 1/4th oz. shakey head jig weights (unless used with  large soft plastics with 5/0+ hook size or in very deep water tend not to have the right action) thus you might be better off using another technique such as a T-Tig with 3/8th+ bullet weight .  The above said a typical shakey head set up would be : 7 M / F spinning rod , 2500 / 3000 series spinning reel , #10lb. ~ #15 lb. braid mainline with 8' leader of co-poly or FC line , 1/8th oz. shakey head (Owner and Strike King) along with a Zoom Trick worm in Green Pumpkin (both easy to find locally) ... Lastly , Google Pro : "Jeff Kriet shakey head " videos as Jeff Kriet is highly regarded as a great , knowledgeable shakey head specialist ... Also google Aaron Martens  shakey head video on Table Rock lake (very good instruction) ... Lastly , of course search Bass Resource archives for shakey head tactics... Good luck !

Also a 1/8th oz. or 3/16th oz. spot remover using a slightly longer  Trick Worm works similarly with a slightly larger profile .
