We don't have anything like that here. I could get a BJ's membership but there's none right close by. If this goes on further, I may have to rethink this whole boat thing.

I can see the headline now “john joins Jon boat mafia “

You aren't that far off. Before getting the bass boats, I almost bought an 18' aluminum center console by G3.

My gas station went up a dollar in a week. Paid $5.39 today. $20 for quarter tank haha. Thinking I should have filled it up because it's gonna keep rising. most I've ever paid.

I have a yak and I'm still thinking I need to quit drinking beer so I can afford to even get to the water.

When I sold my Lund, I was banking on covid to get me a deal on a slightly used boat after a couple years. Now, with gas over $4 a gallon with no end in sight, and a recession on the horizon, there should be a ton of slightly used and repo'd  boats on the market in the next couple years.

I bought a 14 footer a month after I sold my Lund to get on the water. I'm focused on the big picture.

Thank you Steve Miller. ?

Right now the plan is to fish out of the pond hopper this year. I think I'm going to head to the Miami boat show in February 2023 and crawl thru the center console hybrids. Get an idea of what I want in person rather than youtube videos, and go from there. I'm leaning towards Sportsman and Everglades 24 footers. I like the Caymas that @J Francho has fallen in love with. Up in the air about the Robalo I've mentioned previously.

I think I've decided on a Yammie for propulsion rather than Merc. Everything is going electronic now and IMO Yamaha seems to have the upper hand.

It's difficult to choose a favorite on youtube.

I think you're right, with the spike in gas, inventories will probably start filling up soon, hopefully creating a supply/demand imbalance favorable to the buyer. We'll see how the next few carter years go. :)

I will say, I'm glad my boat is almost paid for.

Fast forward a couple years, and somehow ended up with a pontoon boat.  It's a 40 year old Bass Buggy from Tracker, and hey - it's a center console.  I actually like this thing for the family, but still looking for the retirement boat.  This just gives me more time to look at more bass boats.

It's interesting how my tastes changed.  I still really like the previous gen Dauntless.  I'm really digging the Sportsman Masters 267.  In fact, I'm leaning toward a bigger boat than 25', but under 30'.  Blue Wave looked pretty nice too, but it looks like they closed their doors.  That's a deal breaker.  Still want a little tin boat, so I look for craft that are interesting in that segment too.  Rockfish R130 is a sweet little ride that looks like it can go anywhere.  Larry Dahlberg just had one built for him.

The truck is sold, so what ever I end up with will dictate tow vehicle.  Likely a tradesman model HD pickup.  I don't need anything fancy.  Currently using the Suburban to tow, and while it's great to pack the fam and go, it's slow, heavy, and sucks gas.  something a little less giant station wagon would suit me.

Anyone else looking at boats?

Thinking of something 17' with a 75 hp

  • Super User

I'm thinking of boats, but I've got a 1436 jon, 9.9 Mercury, Terrova 55, Garmin, and everything just waiting on me to put it together. All new, been sitting for years. I've installed the aluminum floor and seat doublers.

That Rockfish, I can't imagine a 14' aluminum that can run a 250hp.

I got my new one almost a year ago. Soooo no looking for me. Lol

Honestly, and I"M A SPEED FREAK, I can't really see needing more than 150 hp for my purposes.  My guess is that the loss of thrust using a jet drive and the need for immediate torque when running extreme shallows is where that comes from.

If I didn't have to satisfy anyone else's needs, an 18' mod-v with a center console and a 75-90 hp would be perfect.

This would work :)

I really have no interest in buying but I still like looking at em.

My favorite thread here is the "show your ride" one.  Purchasing a new bass boat in 2015 is what led me to this website/forum.
