So, being old, and out of touch, I see a lot of anglers wearing these black rings in their fingers as opposed to traditional type rings. Do these black rings signify something.?

Those are what I was referring to. Now, I'm curious as to why they choose to all wear Black rings.

Not sure about wearing black, but I wear a gray one. I wear that as opposed to my actual ring due to the nature of my job. It would be to easy to damage or lose my ring, so the cheap one stays on my finger while the real one stays in a safe place.

My wife wanted to get me a thin blue line one. I already have a titanium ring, and although it about falls off if I'm not careful these days, I didn't see a need to buy another one to replace the one I have. As a fisherman, titanium just seems to make sense after all.

Aside from trendy and keeping the expensive one at home; one of the primary reasons for wearing the silicon rings is finger safety. Look up Jimmy Fallon finger avulsion.

No ring...no earring...no tat...no piercing...yup...I'm boring.

I wear a silicon ring while fishing and doing other chores that might damage my regular wedding band.

 

I bought a pack with multiple colors. I like the camo and the blue camo the best. I do wear the black one more and more as it doesn't show dirt, blood and fish slime like the others do. They clean up easily though.

My wedding ring is a Claddagh, worn traditionally (left ring finger, heart up). If I'm doing something where the ring could be damaged or lost...I take it off and put it in a pocket or leave it on my dresser. I'm not one of those who have to have my wedding ring, or a 'facsimile' on my hand at all times...doesn't make me less married if it's not on.

 

Earring? Ya, had one for many years, haven't worn it for about six months now...hole is probably closed.

Tatts? Ya, got a couple...not normally shown. Custom designs, not something 'off the rack'...they have meaning.

Piercings? Other than the former earring, nothing.

I saw some in a Wal Mart made out of tungsten. They were in the $40 to $50 price range. Maybe that will work for you as a fisherman.

I have one that's titanium already. It was pretty inexpensive and not flashy or anything like I wanted.

Those titanium rings are definitely tough.  We had a guy double clutch a flash bang and once we got him to the CSH, there was nothing that they had that could even scratch the thing.  His finger swelled around the ring to the point where he got no circulation, and at the end of it all the finger had to be amputated.  I would be careful with those things; I doubt many of you throwing flash bangs routinely, but in cases where there's a crush or burn injury, getting a ring off can be critical.

I am also a no jewelry or tattoo kind of guy...which is unique I guess in my age bracket/ generation. Honestly I think you stand out more now with people my age if you don't have tats.

That was one thing they told me when I bought it, they're nearly impossible to cut. Just have to make sure I don't swell up again. Good incentive to keep myself in shape I suppose.

I don't really see a wedding band as jewelry I guess. All the extra stuff isn't for me. I wear full sleeve uniforms at work all year round and everyone assumes I must have sleeve tattoos that I'm covering. Truth is I'm just always cold ? Don't have a single one and just not my thing. Nothing against them, I'd just rather spend that couple hundred dollars on a new reel and let my kids draw on me with a sharpie instead.

I have a black tungsten wedding band. Got it real cheap on ebay. It certainly isn't a fashion statement. It is just easier to wear a ring as opposed to carrying a big stick around to keep the ladies off me.

I have a buddy who is a tattoo artist by trade...he's been doing it along time now. Has full sleeves and a bunch of other tats all over..I love him like a brother...we have been friends for almost 20 years but I don't get it. And he knows that. Has no impact on our relationship.

 

Just want to Thank all you guys for chiming in on the black ring thing. I thought it was to signify something, now I know better..I actually had my wedding band ripped off my finger, that tore my skin to the bone. Got it caught in something, and have never worn a ring since then, my wife was very understanding..anyway, thanks again.

This case wasn't exactly gradual or expected, but it was probably very rare.  I volunteered as a paramedic back in my hometown going on two decades ago, and we carried a ring cutter in all the trucks but never had a case where we couldn't get the ring off intact.  When I lost my original wedding band, I thought of replacing it with a titanium one.  My wife bought me another non-titanium one as a birthday gift.  I lost that one not too many years ago and the thought of that guy's finger kept me from just getting a titanium one.  They are practical otherwise.

I have a tungsten carbide wedding ring and they told me that cutting it is possible but it is a pain but usually if it comes down to it, this style of ring they can break with a couple quick smacks with a hammer if needed.

I thought the black ring is a wedding band.

I’ve never had a tattoo or wanted one but I’m considering getting a ring tattoo when I get married because I don’t want to rip my finger off. I’ve never worn a ring and I don’t think I would be very good at it
