Both - pour all my own jigs, paint, tie but crankbaits and plastics nope I buy from others who make them or trade for them.  

If it has a lead head, I'm probably going to be making it.

I make spinnerbaits and buzzbaits . The thing about spinnerbaits , after you catch 20 to 50 fish take the hardware off and put it on a new bait . No more broken baits when battling a fish .   I Recycle my favorite brand spinnerbait components . Buy a Booyah bait with Hildebrandt blades , dont wait for it to break transfer those blades . 

 

I just caught over 30 bass on a new hand pour friday . Those components are already on a fresh bait ready to go again . I'll remelt the head and salvage the hook next pour .

KipBoth.  I've been pouring my own jigs for about 3 years.  I make my own skirts.  I tried making my own spinner baits, but honestly it's a hassle with all the components.  And I really like war eagle and river2sea when it comes to those.. as for worms, hardbaits, and others...just simpler to buy them...for me.   

 

I started out buying lead jig head and making my own skirts...I was gifted a mold and bit the bullet and bought everything I needed at one time, even an extra oven for the shop...and I've had the best time making my own jigs.... but that said, there are a couple jigs that i do buy because i do not have the mold

I primarily fly fish and I tie 99% of my flies.

Tie most of my own jigs. Wanting to move to tungsten jigs this winter, going to have to find some suppliers with the styles I want.

Make/pour my own jigs, chatter baits, and inline spinners  .  Buy hard baits. 
 

I will buy un painted jigs from other people if I’m unsure if I want to buy the mold or if I won’t use it enough to justify buying the mold. 
 

last year I was ready to start making my own spinner baits.  This year spinner baits have been hit or miss for me. So I’m holding off on doing that. 

I pour all the lead and bismuth jigs that I throw, except bitsy bugs. For less than $2 a jig it isn't really worth it to me. I have two full time jobs and work 70 hours a week right now. 

 

As for soft plastics, I only buy things that are difficult to pour or are on massive sale. Hula grubs are one bait I do buy, mating the skirt and twin tail is a pain. I also buy tubes, but when my supply gets low I'm grabbing a mold for those. 

 

Other baits not made by me include:

-Senkos, the originals are great when fish are picky. If they aren't any stickbait will work-including mine.

-Zman TRDs

-Mann's worms

I'm a fly fisherman and I tie all my own flies.   I'll buy jigs and dress them with buck tail or marabou.  I refurbish lures for myself and the guys I fish with.  I've picked up the materials to make in-line and Mepps style spinners for my fishing buddies.  I did try making some lures, but used premade bodies that I had to paint and add hooks to.  Did catch a few walleye with them.

I wasted a bunch of money needlessly on spinnerbait materials . I have all kinds of blades that I will never use and and run out of the ones I do use . Did a lot of experimenting and I pretty much use the same balde configuration all the time now. A number two Colorado front blade and a 4.5 willow in back on a 1/2 ounce frame. What has been killing it for me and the only reason I made it in the first place  was because I ran out of chrome and gold #2 Colorados, is a copper in front and gold rear . That  combo has been a real slobberknocker the last three trips .

What skirt colors are best up your way?  Bleeding shad has been my top with gold and silver willows.

I have been using dull skirts since post-spawn . Something like this or bluegill .The water here is clearer than it has been all year but tea stained .

...and deep cupped blades dont rotate very well  as the front blade .  

I like War Eagle skirts but Pradco discontinued the bleeding shad so I bought dalmation skirts from fishing skirts.  Mine is the one with the bigger head.
