To go along with my recent braid and budget spinning reel threads I wanted to ask...what size reel do you prefer for Ned rigs?

I normally use a 1000 reel on a L/F for Ned, my other finesse rig is a 2500 on a ML/F.

2500

4000 on a Loomis 901. 2500 on a Dobyns 702.

If using braid w/leader 1000 is a good match with finesse spinning rods, without braid the larger spool diameter 2500.

Tom : Do you feel a smaller 1000 series spinning reel casts small diameter braid any better than say a 2500 series spinning reel ? Curious because I have never considered a spinning reel smaller than a 2500 for bass fishing and all my spinning reels are braid main line + FC leader (even for the Ned Rig) .

I like 2500 on a higher gearing. A lot of exposed hook techniques I set the hook with the reel and snap my wrist rather than a normal home run swing hook set. The higher gearing helps catch up and set the hook, and spool size is at least some of the line take up. 

I use my 3000 Tatula but that is the size of most other manufacturer's 2500 size.  

You can go to 1000 size, but I use 2500 sizes.  Its just more versatile and will allow to to use that set up for more things.  Dont over think it 

Use size 30 Pfleuger. Perfect size for me.

The Ned rig is a finesse presentation not a fast retrieve.

1000 size reel is lighter weight and compatible with lighter weight spinning rods. Braid doesn’t have memory that creates coils in the line coming off the spool, no reason to use larger spool heavier spinning reels.

My son started with a Shimano Stratic 1000 on medium action Phenix rod out 25 years ago using 5 lb Max UG line and was still using and catching bass as a 6’3” adult because it was a well balanced finesse outfit.

A 30 in Pflueger is about 2500 for everyone else...so you're in line.

I think I'm gonna go the 1000 size route. The rod I'm using is a 6 ft10 med light and I'm gonna run 10lb braid with leader. With line diameter being around 2-3lb I don't see the need for a larger reel..may as well keep the weight down.

These days, I use 1000 size reels for most of my spinning presentations  just because they are lighter.  As I get older that seems to be more and more important.   There are a few exceptions to this rule, the most recent one being I like a larger reel to throw light weight balsa crank baits.   I like the slightly larger spool for this purpose.    I've officially packed it in for the season, so my preferences for next season may change.

I like a 1000 size reel, 5’6” to 6’ rod and 6-8 pound p line copolymer 

I have 4 designated spinning setups for Ned rig fishing.  I use my Shimano 1000s and 2000s with 6# fluorocarbon line.  I don’t like braid and leaders.  I don’t have any spooling issues with the straight fluorocarbon line.   I keep my 2500s for other techniques like shaky and tubes with heavier line.

I fish for other species so I use a 2500 sized reel with 140yds of 20lb braid, if I need more line simply go to 10-15lb braid. Never came close to being spooled yet. I also find the 1000 size a bit small for my hands.

My current reel on this rod is a 1000 size shimano which is actually smaller than a daiwa...since I've decided to go with daiwa I'm sure the 1000 will be just fine.

I’m sure that it will be a good selection for you.  There is no need to use a large reel for an application that needs only 6# test line.  You go with bigger stuff then you are not Ned fishing.

2000 Tatula LT, or 1000 Stradic FK with 8lb braid

I feel the 1000 is plenty sufficient for bass. Then again, I've never caught a big bass, either. The only reason I'd even consider a 2500 for bass is purely so I wouldn't get spooled if I hooked into something of decent size.

You won't get spooled unless you did not spool your reel properly.

I'm going hi-vis braid to leader for my Neds - my 1000 size reel holds about 100 yds of 10# braid with backing. Since I don't toss it far away, I don't think I'll be spooled.
