What bait/technique do you feel you've put the most hours into and are the most confident in? What do you reach for when your having trouble figuring the fish out?

For me it's a slow moving bait and more specifically a jig. There's hardly a time when it fails me since color changes, downsizing, and other adjustments are all possible with it. I've used them so much at this point it feels like second nature and now my arm sets the hook before my brain even notices theres been a bite ?. Other than that I love how well fish get pinned with it. I haven't had a fish come off on a jig in over a year I'd say.

 

What's your confidence bait?

Either a lizard, or worm on a TX rig for me. 

Punching hydrilla and/or hyacinth 

Frogs over, in and through pads 

Sight / bed fishing

Once the boat comes down off of plane the first thing I grab is a Texas Rig, Wacky Rig, Shaky Head Weightless T-rig, Carolina Rig, Jig-N-Craw, Mojo Rig, Rage Rig, Drop Shot or anything that takes me to the bottom.

 

I'm gonna be casting, flipping, pitching, punching, hopping, dragging, shaking, dead sticking, or skipping.

 

I don't care if its grass, brush, timber, rocks, docks, pads, lay downs, shore line or off shore. I don't care if its pre- spawn, spawn, post spawn, summer, dog days, fall, winter, morning, noon, or night.

 

Give me 2 rod-n-reels with any of the above techniques & I be happy, happy, happy!

 Most Hours into:

If I added up the actual hours fished, past few seasons it would probably be a Jerkbait.

However there's a few other deals that get wet on a regular basis, so it might be pretty close.

 

Trouble figuring the fish out:

 In my world, that means I can't find them.

So I'm reaching for the ignition key.

It's all about location.

 

Confidence Bait:

This one seems to change season to season & even year to year.

Currently it's a dead heat between a deep diving jerkbait & a vibrating jig.

Spinners of any kind. And swim baits of any kind. 

I’ve used that rig for swimbaits but never a rage craw. Cool beans, I got something new to try ! Thanks 

Jig and spinner.  I only slow down when I have to.

Spinnerbait.

Black/blue worm 1/4 or 3/8 oz, straight shank hook. 
 

These are not only confidence baits but also highly insecure baits..

Spinnerbait and flipping jig or Texas rig.

Always a plastic worm. Various sizes, styles, and a few colors. A light T rig is my confidence bait. It's caught more fish for me than all other lures combined.

It definitely varies lake to lake for me. I have definitely increased my confidence in jigs and T-Rigs since getting kayaks last year. Getting offshore really changed everything for me. Then of course there's spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jerkbaits and poppers, all of which at times are high on my list.

Froggin mats.

Put the most time into is wacky rigging because it is so slow. But the bait I use the most is a swimmbait.

For decades, it was a plastic worm T-Rigged with a bullet sinker.  I still catch a lot of my fish on a worm, but the last 20yrs. or so, it's been a jig. Whether it's pitching it, swimming it, stroking it, dead sticking it, or dragging it, I have some style tied on at least one rod.

I couldnt agree more! Nothing like using a "slower" natural bait to target  any and all cover (with good structure ofcourse). Keeps things simple.

That makes total sense. Only recently have I found how important it is to find where the fish are. Gonna be hard to catch anything if theres nothing around hahaha!

Frog, spinnerbait, frog, jig, frog and a frog.   With those I can mostly forego my other rods although I love jerkbaits and texas rigs too.

Jig or a bladed jig. If they're eating one of those 2, I'm going to catch them. 

I only fish things I have the utmost confidence in, and I only bring things with me that I fish, so everything in the tackle bag. And I don't believe that "techniques" as defined by bass guys exist, so N/A on that one.

Lipless cranks, finesse soft plastics, swim jigs.
