Hi everyone,

I was wondering how many carry an extra prop in case you need it...... hit bottom, stump, or spun a hub.
One came with my boat, but I can’t seem to find a home for it anywhere in the boat. I’ve got a small boat (15ft), so room is limited, but I know I will jinx myself if I take it out of the boat. 
Thought I’d ask and see how many carry an extra on with them.

Always. I keep 4 of them in my little river boat haha. I always have an extra trolling motor prop too. And two paddles 

I started to right after I butchered my 1st prop.  Lesson learned.

Just a spare trolling motor prop and extra shear pins for me.

Although I do have a prop wrench on board to remove the prop

and clear a line or whatever if need be.

Also a spare Flo-Torq II Hub Kit in case I spin one.

I should add, you need the tools also. The other day this happened and my tool box was in the other boat........ Woops haha. Luckily it ran ok except while turning.

Extra prop, extra TM prop and 2 shear pins.

Both big motor and TM. Carry the tools, and needed parts, nuts, shear pin thrust washer etc.. Slung an ear fishing Champlain,  on the big motor pretty far from where I launched. Changed props, fished and home safely.

I have a 115 hp so I keep a spare aluminum prop just in case. I’ve mashed them before. Last time WOT in skinny water I just clipped a rock. Took a quarter size chunk out of the skeg and dinged the SS prop enough to replace it for the day.

Until recently, I didn’t even have a spare prop.

 

I added a secondary aluminum prop last week. I don’t intend to keep it with me in the boat.

I’ve straightened out many a hooks for pins 

I have a spare aluminum for the outboard and one for the trolling motor.

I have ever since I hit a stump 20 feet out from the boat ramp.

OK... lots of us carry a spare prop, trolling motor prop and prop wrench.

 

But who remembers to carry a small block of 2x4 to jam the prop so you can get the prop nut loosened/tightened?  ?

I ain’t got that much torque, But I do keep a chunk of 2x4 that use as a transom saver haha

 

 

My Prop nut can easily be removed without a block, I guess because it’s only 50 hp

My motor is only a 40 HP.  Maybe I'm using too much torque on the prop nut!

Or maybe I’m not wrenching it tight enough haha. I did almost cut my hand once....

The listed torque recommendation for props using the Flo-Torque arrangement is 55 ft.lbs.

 

That's the target, but you usually have to go a little more or less to get the tabs on the safety washer to line up with the flats on the nut.

I upgraded the prop on my motor as soon as I got my boat.  I keep the original aluminum prop on board along with the needed tools and 2X4 to change out on the water.  Shear pins for the TM but I need to add a spare TM prop.

I hadn’t thought about a trolling motor prop and pins… but if you messed up your trolling prop early in the morning, the rest of you day might be a little rougher fishing. 
OK I’ll find a home in the boat for the motor prop, now I’ll find a trolling prop and accessories needed for on the water repairs…… Man, my little boat getting smaller and smaller.

 

I never carried an extra prop for my motors with stainless or aluminum props, but my new 3.5 hp Merc has a plastic one, so I'll be carrying an extra.
