4" Big Bite tube, green pumpkin, stupid rigged, 4/0 EWG head, 7'3"-7'6" MH rod, 14# XT. Pitched and cast on chunk rock ledges, flats, and rip rap. I switch to a T-Rigged beaver when fishing wood and grass.

I have seen info on the stupid rig,but never paid it anyway attention. I thought it was a casting technique. I'll have to go take a look at it.  What size weight are you using?

BBB Craw tube in black/blue or 420. Extra wide gap 4/0 superline with pegged tungsten from 3/16 to 3/8 on an Xtreme 745C.

Green pumpkin red flake Zoom Tube Texas rigged on a 3/0 Superline EWG hook, 1/4 oz weight with a bobber stop, will move the bobber stop out of the way at times, cut a 1/2 inch slit from the skirt where the hook enters so the tube collapses better

Nearly always 1/4. I make my jig heads using the Do-It Shakey mold without the screwlock. I like the ball head better than the traditional tube style. Whatever head you use, the EWG hook is very important. It gets you a better hookup percentage and comes through cover better than a round bend. I don't tex oppose the point. I leave it exposed. Rigged right it lays tight against the body. Hookup percentage is very good if you hit'em hard.

Stupid rig comes through rock much better than a T-Rigged tube, and when it does hang up you can pop it loose most of the time thanks to the plastic covering the head.

I think you are a heavy cover fishing scientist

Dunno about that, but if one were to categorize bass fisherman, I'd definitely fall in the same group as Brauer, Hackney, Tharp, and the LEGENDARY @Catt?

I'm going to have to get some wide gap tube hooks  for stupid tubing . I toyed with a regular tube head last year and the couple of fish I stuck came unbuttoned .

Anyone know how to punch a tube?   I think getting the heavy sinker into a tube would make so streamline.  I’ve seen a guy do it, but I didn’t get a chance to see how he rigged it.   I have a1/2 oz titanium sinker that’s fairly small.  Might not be heavy enough, but the bait would be ultra compact so I don’t know.

The EWG makes a big difference. They tend to hang onto them well too, with no exposed lead to feel unnatural they generally give you plenty of time to stick 'em. There's alot of plastic there for them to clamp down on, so a hard hookset is required to move the bait in their mouth and get good penetration.

I mostly fish rock structure with it and move the bait with a sideways pull of the rod. Let it fall on slack line so it spirals and darts.

I set the hook kinda like swinging a bat. I point the rod to them, take out the slack, and give them a hard sideways swing, turning my hips through it. Swinging for the fences so to speak. Hookup % is very good. 90%'ish

I had an awesome 3 days a few years ago fishing mainlake structure with a Stupid Tube. 30-40 fish per day. After the 3rd day it looked like I'd taken a 90mph fastball to the ribs. Wasn't really very sore, but it sure looked nasty.

My setup is almost identical to @T-Billy...only difference is I use a yum vibra king tube mostly.

Gamagatsu makes a skip gap hook that is specifically designed to use with a tube.  I've used it before with pretty decent success.  You have to use some kind of bullet sinker with it though, since the tube/hook won't sink on its own.

A flipping tube is one of my confidence baits. I always have one rigged in the boat.

I use the 4" Right Bite Baits  Salted Tube in Black/Red Glitter, Black/Blue Tail, and Green Pumpkin/Red and Green Glitter when I'm fishing around home in the Atchafalaya Basin and the marshes. I'll use these on a 7' Medium Heavy rod, with 17 pound test line.

I'll upsize to the Strike King Denny Brauer 4 1/2" Flipping Tube in the same colors when I go to lakes like Toledo Bend or Sam Rayburn where the fish run larger. I'll use a 7' Heavy Action rod and 20 pound test on places like these.

I'll usually start with a 1/4 ounce slip sinker and will adjust up or down as needed. I very seldom will peg the slip sinker when using a tube. I seem to get more strikes with the free sliding sinker.

Also, I use a Mustad Big Mouth Tube hook in 4/0 or 5/0 and I always insert a glass rattle inside the tube.

I'll have to go with a 3/8 ounce head or wont be able to pitch it with my regular pitching rod . I could drop to 12 lb test and get away with a 1/4 ounce head but I'm usually pitching into fairly heavy cover and like to use 17 lb trilene xl .

All I have to say is the best tube flipping hook I’ve personally ever tried is the Trokar tournament tube hook. If I’m not stupid tubing, and I’m going weedless tube, this thing has been perfect.

Do you cut a slit in the tube for the hook?

No need. Just start Texas rigging through the nose and rig just like you would t-rig any soft plastic with an offset hook. Due to the wide bend, angle of the bend, and great bait keeper……they’re very easy to rig and come out nice and straight. For 3.5 - 4 “ tubes, 3/0 is what I use the most, but I sometimes need 2/0 for 3 “ or 4/0 for 4” depending on the particular tube model and your personal preference.
