They didn't call deep pile carpets shag for nothing, Yeah baby!... :)

Those huge tackle boxes were popular in the fifties and sixties.  They were a sign at the ramp that you were a great bass fisherman, similar to having two power poles today.  The older man that taught me how to bass fish had one built into his boat.   I carried one myself until high performance bass boats came to be.  Heaven forbid the weight of your tackle would cut the speed down a few MPH!  ?

i didn't know having powerpoles made you a great bass fisherman ? i know some guys who have them on their boat that rarely if ever use them

Over the years there have been numerous boat ramp "tells" bass fisherman have used to identify themselves as elite anglers.  In the sixties, when I first started fishing bass tournaments, we wore ridiculous looking jumpsuits with sponsor patches plastered all over.  Then we painted our name on the side of the boat or on the outboard motor.  The bigger your outboard motor, the better bass fisherman you were.  Today, it's wrapped boats, enough electronics to launch a trip to Mars and Yes two power poles at $2,000 each.  When I was a guide, I carried a $5 wooden stake out pole and it worked just as well.  Have you ever seen a TV bass pro use a power pole for any actual fishing purpose?  Most of them are only used at the dock.  If you want something because it makes you happy, I'm fine with that.   You don't need $60K-$70K or more worth of stuff to catch bass.

you are 100% sir!

I have seen pros use power poles with great regularity when fishing, especially around a large piece of cover or structure, and when sight fishing for bedding bass.

I guess it does happen, but not that often to the average bass fisherman.   We use a power pole when dealing with wind, current or tide when fishing salt water flats for Redfish, Bonefish and Tarpon.  Trolling motors spook fish in extremely shallow water.  The average bass fisherman will never use one except to moor the boat.  Did you ever try to fish around those things?  My best friend has a new 21' Skeeter.  It came with two power poles and they have both broken down.   I don't want anything on my boat that is not essential.

I sold my tackle box exactly like Bill Dance has in the photo last year. The box may look heavy but it’s not and made of aluminum. The trays are cork lined keeping the wooden plugs dry. I kept the box for to store my vintage and antique lures.

I have a Kennedy tackle box too. Mine only has 3 trays per side though. I’d love to have one like billy boy there!! Like Tom I keep lots of old vintage plugs in mine. They can still be had on the auction site for around a hundred bucks.

We're running em on Jon boats in our shallow water marshes.

I never thought of fishing for big females while they are nesting with gobies all around them.  I just am not a master fisherman.

Glad Bill, Roland and Jimmy houston are still around, love those guys......still watch them.

I stll have 4 decades old Plano medium boxes with lures in 2 of them. 1 has engine spare parts & tools. other has full set of rain gear.    They Have not started to be affected by the sun yet.

Ski mentions not getting a hook in the carpet. Crush the stuck barb.  Works for hooks in human skin.

I would like to take a look at all of those plugs .

The fact you used the word plugs shows you're an old fart

Got to be the ONLY pic ever of Bill Dance without a Tennessee hat on.

Ah, the good ole possum belly. I still have one. Fact is, I still have a lot of old dodo.

That was the Philipson tackle box of the Jason Lucas era.
