Unfortunately most states will just give them the equivalent of a slap on the wrist. We need to get the laws changed to make the punishment more severe.

This is exactly right.  I'll vote for you.

I'd never get elected for a couple reasons...I wouldn't take bribes (campaign contributions) from big money and I'd listen to the normal folks.

I would say yes, but then I'd have to go to confession :) .

I had to check to make sure I wasn't conflating With Matthew on feeding the masses.

In the deer hunting realm here, the DNR has adopted a zero tolerance policy when caught using bait. First offense, you lose your weapon and hunting privileges for a year. It has cut down on the number of baiting violations immensely. I say incorporate some of these zero tolerance policies on other violations too. We all know there are a lot of hunters and anglers breaking the law that never get caught because there simply isn’t enough manpower or enforcement, so let’s make an example out the people who get caught.

A good start would be to increase the fines...Currently it's $50 for the first over limit and $25 for each additional. Put it at $100 per fish and put that money into hiring more COs.

I agree, beefing up the fines would be a good start.

I will say that I think there is a big difference between someone who is knowingly breaking the law and someone who is making a minor mistake that they were not aware of though. Obviously in this specific case, these guys were clearly doing it on purpose and went way over board.

If they don't know the limits, they shouldn't be out. No excuses far as I'm concerned...everyone treated the same.

In Tennessee its a class "B" Misdemeanor...which can carry a six month jail sentence and/or $500 fine.

We have plenty of game wardens.

We have 186 Conservation Officers to patrol 11,842 lakes and 8,100 miles of rivers and streams...I think we're a little short.

13 new COs join the force

Now I want to move to Minnesota. You got a spare room for rent?

Ummm...I might have a corner in the basement free. Have to share it with the furnace though...the concrete floor is cold, so are the cinder-block walls. there's no window and only one electrical outlet.

It has to be 25 years since I saw a game warden, That was back in the day when your license had to be visible.

To the OP, glad to hear that the rules are being enforced.

I have literally never seen a conservation officer here in Minnesota.  I have hunted on public land for almost 30 years and fished popular lakes and rivers for 20. The only law enforcement I have encountered is the Hennepin County Water Patrol on Lake Minnetonka who are primarily looking for safety violations and drunk boaters.

We need like a crap load more officers up here.

Definitely.  If you want a crime to stop, people have to not want the consequences.

Why are they 'unidentified anglers'?

Their names should have been all caps, bold type
