Oh man, I'm surprised we didn't bump into each other, we used to spend a lot of time in Gilgo,

Good ole days. My FLA snow bird aunt still has a house on Ocean Beach. Having a get together this summer for my Father's memorial. His friend has a great spread right on the Connetquot. Loved going there.

Well so far all of your fish are bigger than my little one but I love mine anyways haha.

And I agree with whoever caught their first fish and it wasn't a bass. I wouldn't care either! Before catching any fish this year I caught some line with a nice lure on it and was a little excited. "Well it's somethin!"

I organized my Planos today, gonna go fishing at some bigger water this weekend, from the bank though.

Truth be told, all these green fish just get in the way while I'm... :)

About a half hour after I got to the lake this bass became my first catch of the year.

After too many weeks of skunks this little lady came out to play.  Caught off the bank with a suspending monsterbass vision 110 knock off.   3.25 lbs

Nice! I know all about "weeks of skunks" :(

Caught January 2nd 5.5lbs 23.5". Fought like a small fish. I was so surprised. I caught her on a black and blue tube. In the past, you couldn't catch me dead with a spinning rig in my hand, after that day, I'm a firm believer in finesse tackle.

Nice bass in the last couple posts. Actually all of them except mine LOL, but I love mine too :)

January 2nd at 7:24 AM. Not a monster but the first. Off to a great start this year due to the kayak and actually getting better at this fishing thing9477113A-A37A-464B-964F-C931354714D9.thumb.jpeg.371a21383a3c53862e8bdf5aecf01884.jpeg

I know I tell everyone on here but I can’t believe my first legal bass will only be in June ???. I always want to make a first bass post but it’s so late

I'm not that much earlier - middle of May is when it's legal here again.

Down in southwest Florida with my third LM  of the year but first picture taken. Caught on a Jerkbait .

Looking forward to getting back on the boat to hunt down that first bass on my home lake sometime next month.

I might retire before yall ever get started, sounds beyond brutal to wait that long. I’d be in a straight jacket if I couldn’t bass fish til June

All the other species keep me busy! When you haven’t fished 4-5 months you’ll take anything that bites, forget about bass!

I have a feeling they will eventually move to C&R season for bass, so you can fish for them when the season for the other game species open. I know in southern Ontario along the SLR, they have moved to that instead of waiting for the second weekend of June.  Shouldn’t be too long for me but everything just seems to move slower in Quebec.

it’s also important to note that while bass are still insanely popular as a gamefish in Quebec, they aren’t as culturally relevant as they are in America. Walleye and trout fishing are more popular than bass fishing. Even pike fishing is arguably more popular. Hardcore anglers around here are usually of the ‘multi species’ type, not exclusively bassheads. So even the dedicated and average/casual fisherman just sort of deal with it and fish for other species until they can legally target bass. No one’s out here with pitchforks complaining that there’s not even a C&R season, except the bassheads like me but we’re the minority. It’s hard to explain but the average anglers here are just different, at least from my talks with you guys and the anglers which I know from my parts.

For bass heads it’s just a long painful wait. But I do fish for everything regularly, bass are just my true love.

Then there’s also the issue of poaching, especially in the city, so the season was probably created to counteract that but I won’t get into it. Sorry for the long post but I could talk about this all night. I’LL BE OUT THERE SOON ENOUGH ???

Ya - they did that in MN some years back. Use to be you couldn't target bass until Memorial Weekend. Then they added C&R starting when walleye/pike season opened...still can't keep bass until Memorial Weekend, but at least we can go out when the other gamefishers do.

My first bass this year was a good one.  Just under 26 inches, and a little over 10 pounds.

Thanks.  That fish was in early January.  Only decent fish of the day.  Great start, but  I haven't been able to get back to that lake sense.  Work is getting in the way of my bass fishing.  I hope to get some time in April to chase the big ones.
