What size do you use more often 3/8 oz. or 1/2 oz.?  No docks to skip here in my area, just casting.

i throw both depending on the depth i'm fishing. i do find myself throwing 3/8 more, but i know a lot of guys are opposite and throw the 1/2 oz more.

3/8oz 95% of the time. 

3/8 mostly.  But I've gone to 1/2 for 12-20 foot with some success 

Both 3/8 & 1/2 see equal action for me.

Which one is usually determined by water temp, depth,

and where in the water column I'm looking to present the bait.

Most of my waters very are shallow, like 6 ft, sometimes 8ft.  It's hard for me to keep 1/2 oz CBs from plowing in to the muck. No problem controlling 3/8oz though. 1/2 oz only gets used at deeper lakes.

I use both 3/8 and 1/2 pretty equally too.

1/2 oz religiously. Can run them shallow or deep without issue.

Primarily 1/2 oz for me. 

I use the 1/2 oz size.

I think in general Chatterbaits float up upon retrieve... therefore unless I’m running a long shoreline in a shallow river, I almost always opt for 1/2 or 3/4 oz. 

Used to be almost entirely 3/8. Now it is almost entirely 1/2 (or heavier). But where I fish there's not much open shallower than 5' because of the grass.

3/8th oz. is a good starting weight - especially if most of your chatterbait work is more shallow . The trailer used will also make a difference : If Zman elaztec material then a 1/2 oz. weight may be a better chatterbait option  because the elaztec material floats . 

1/2 almost exclusively.  Most of our water is 0-12' and I can cover all of that with retrieve speed and rod angle.  You can skim a 1/2 across the top 6" of the water column when the grass grows in by holding the rod high tip.  Maybe I should throw a 3/8 more and slow it down some, but most places I'm casting into 0" and bringing it back out to 6' or more so I want that weight to hold it down when I need it.

1/2 and 3/4 oz. 

3/8oz, don't need any bigger size. Use it in deep water all the way to 1ft. 

1/2 oz mostly, I do use the 3/4 oz quite a bit too for slow rolling in the mid-depth 8-12'. I also use a 1.25 oz for deep water 15-20'+.
