following.  I too use a stone with hook grooves, but its a pain for certain hooks and relies on user technique to not ruin a hook.  I remember ages ago seeing an electric one that you put the hook into a hold and inside were diamond turning stones to touch up the point.  Anyone use or have one?

I have one in my fly vest but I don't like it for big hooks.  You're doing 5/0 single hook bait hooks with it?

I use a stone that I've had forever.

I don't recall coming across any hooks I could not sharpen.   Some trebles can be a challenge, though

I really like the DMT pocket sharpeners for touching up a point or smaller hooks.  In a pinch you can draw out a bigger rolled hook but your better off using a file.

I use the diamond file on a Leatherman multi tool . I sharpen even brand new hooks . If they dont dig in my thumbnail they get sharpened . The other day I lightly ran a new VMC offset hook along a tomato . It slid . A couple of strokes on the diamond file and it dug , no sliding .

Spyderco ceramic fine stone.

I always test for sharpness and you would he surprised how many big name companies have dull hooks out of the package.  This includes hooks, jigheads, bladed jigs, spinnerbaits etc.

LOL. I own probably a dozen, but can only find 2 or 3 at any given time. They are reorganizing, so they should still be available. There is a German made one that is similar and better, but hard to find and more $.

Is it bad that Im 45 and have never sharpened a hook?

I've sharpened saltwater lure hooks as they get beat up on rocks a lot, but never had the need on anything freshwater. Pickerel keep me replacing hooks.
