Right now Grand Cherokee. I miss my previous vehicles that were usually trucks or Wranglers. But this is much more practical for me, especially the gas mileage.

my 2006 Tacoma is developing what i believe is noise from a bad wheel bearing.  not bad for 210,000 miles on the odo.   i have an appointment at a mechanic this monday.  i did this job once on a chevy and it was unpleasant at best.  i am older, wiser and have more money now.    and my floor jack broke...hahah.

Dropped my 2016 Silverado off at the shop yesterday.  Like you, I don’t have the desire to wrench on my vehicles anymore.  Normally, I take it to the dealership I bought it from to keep all of the records in one place and I get the reward points to apply to purchases and service but this time I went private shop.  I know my truck inside and out and I also know to drop it into 4wd at least every other month on wet pavement or gravel.  Well, I did that the other day and heard a strange “grinding” out of the front.  Took it to a speciality shop and had a service done to the transfer case and rear differential since it was time and had them look at the 4wd.  Called me back and said the service was done but that they couldn’t find anything wrong with the 4wd.  Told them to DRIVE it in 4wd not just engage it.  They called back and said they heard it and it was going to take some time because everything looks ok and they are going to have to dig deeper to diagnose it.  

transfer case needle bearings?  the ones on the inside of the front drive shafts...my guess.

No call from them today so I assume they are still looking at it.  As per usual my inquiries on the internet have diagnosed every possible part in the front end as suspect.  That’s why I took it to a professional.  ?

Right now with no boat I drive a 2017 Camry.  Rods go in the shotgun seat , tackle bag goes in the trunk. 

I drive a '17 Tundra, '99 CR-V, and a BMW K1200S.  I scored the Honda for $500 with 97K on it.  My bike has 1 horsepower for every 3.5 pounds and gets 35 mpg ... 

 

2001 GMC Yukon 2500 XL - 6.0L and a 1648 Tracker w/40 hp Merc.

 

I keep my rods in the vehicle (with all of the seats laid down I can put a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood in there). I live just a few miles from the ramp and leave most of my actual fishing gear in the truck until I get to the ramp. It takes about a minute or so to put it into the boat once I am there.

 

I normally take one soft tackle bag, a net, and four rods +/-. Sometimes a very small cooler if it's hot outside, and that's it.

I just got home with my new Ford Maverick.  I ordered it with a special $3K off MSRP deal from a dealership out in Iowa.  I flew out to get it and had a fun, 1600-mile road trip home to the NY/VT border. 

 

(I added a hard folding tonneau cover (BAK BAKflip MX4) since the photo above was taken.)

My truck is an 07 Tundra single cab with an 8' bed. I carry rods in the bed, the rod lockers in my boat just can't hold a 7'6" rod. 

 

I daily drive a Jetta that gets 42 mpg, my commute is 45 minutes, so it saves me a ton of money. 

2021 Honda Ridgeline.  Liking it.  Only 5000 tow rating but is enough for me.

hahha...

my mechanic called me and commended me on my ears.  i nailed the problem on my truck.  front drivers side wheel bearing needs to be replaced.   the financial reaming was surprisingly gentle.  i'll live.

 

i long term plans are to keep this thing running until a Tacoma Hybrid option is readily available.  maybe next year or the following?  i am on the foolish wait list for the CyberTruck.  but that is a fools dream at this point.  i bet that thing is north of $100k

I chose the 2.0 EcoBoost gas engine.  I was interested in the hybrid but it wasn't offered in AWD for 2022, and the 2K lb. towing capacity was borderline for my boat.  If the hybrid was offered in AWD (I think it might be for 2023 or maybe next year) it would have been a tougher choice.  

 

I estimate my aluminum Tracker Pro170 with gear, trailer, etc. is right around 2K lbs.  I live in an area with a lot of big hills, so I was happy to get the 4K lb. tow package on my Maverick.  

 

It was a inexpensive option ($745) and included a 3.81 rear end, 225/65R17 tires, transmission cooler, larger radiator, larger capacity cooling fan, 2" receiver hitch, a 4-pin and 7-pin wiring plug receptacles and even a factory-installed electric brake controller.  Nice.

2014 Tundra Double Cab Limited TRD - gets about 17 avg. I save a ton of money by not having a payment.

Oh and I also work remote 3 days a week.

How do you average 17 mpg?  I have a '17 Tundra DC SR5 and might average 14 with a 50/50 mix of highway & city?

Well, I picked up my truck.  Front and rear differentials serviced as well as the transfer case.  They could not find anything wrong with the 4wd system.  Tore it apart and even took measurements….nothing out of line.  Now it isn’t even making any noise.  I guess I should feel lucky, they could have thrown $1,000 worth of parts on it and I would have been none the wiser.  Next stop is to the dealer for oil change, tire rotation and new battery.  It’s starting fine but it’s a 2016 battery and with all the electrical doo dads on these trucks, I want to keep it in good clean power.  Also went with a buddy and looked at a new Silverado baby diesel 1500.  I think he’s buying it.  I’d be on the fence with the price of diesel and it being the first model year of that engine but it is impressive.

I am getting dressed to make the journey to the mechanic I love.  inconvenient as heck but he is trusted.

 

the half ton chevy diesel is so nice.  I see a GMC AT4 version driving around my neighborhood and stare at it with envy.  way to rich for this public servant..but a man can dream.

80% highway. I also don't honk on that v8 very often. When everyone is doing 85 in the 70 I'm doing 70. I Italian tune it every now and then but I don't hammer it much. Towing it's 14.

Used to honk sport bikes. Had a 600rr I bought new, sold it with 17000 miles on it. I now honk on a can am maverick sport max 1000r.

Actually, I was very surprised.  I glanced at the bill after paying it since I expected it to be more than just the actual service work.  It was a little over $200 and for what they did I expected more.  Next stop is the dealer for an oil change, tire rotation and a new battery which in rough numbers, I’m sure will be about the same cost.  I go to the dealer for routine work because it helps with trade in value if I ever want to step up.  Also, I want an AC Delco battery.  Nothing wrong with mine now except it is at least 6 years old depending on when it was manufactured vs installed in my truck when it was on the assembly line in 2016.  These newer trucks are stupidly sensitive to clean power and good grounds.
