Are Irods poor quality? I just got a Genesis III Swimbait Jr and the Eva foam feels extremely cheap

What are Winn grips, is that what IRod uses?

Winn Grips are not foam, but are a tacky, rubbery layer over a somewhat firm foam core.  They are a lot like tennis racket grips or the tape you put on bike handle bars.  They feel very nice even when wet, but some consider their durability to be suspect.  Seems like a lot of immature comments here where "everything I like is right, everything else sucks."  Come on guys, different strokes for different folks.

  • No, it doesn't. For the love of Christmas, just go fishing before you die of old age overthinking all of these minutiae.

  • Careful when you Google things you can catch from beavers… ?

If anybody doesn’t want their iRod, I’ll take it.    Thanks

I used to wear the bass thumb proud, until I ended up with a Staph infection once. (I'll spare you the photo ?). I guess that's what you get when you have soft, wimpy desk jockey hands like I do..!

No that’s what happens when you have to walk into a hospital or doctors office, I don’t think that stuff lives out on the lake

I don't know Irod.  But if Irod is foam, they are not Winn. https://www.winngripsfishing.com/

Shimano Zodias is now consider cheap cause it has EVA grips? I dunno about that, I've got a number of EVA grip rods, no complaints.

Although my two Lew's rods with Winn Grips, lost significant tackiness from a season 2 to 3.

Eva is the least sensitive IMHO. It feels cheap to me. I don't like Wynn grips.Love cork.

The only Winn grips I’ve used wore out in about 6 trips. Then they became fuzz grips. My (at the time) 11 year old son wore his winns out as well. So yeah, that sucked therefore they sucked. Had to get grip replacements for both rods.

I did! ?

Problem most have with Winn Grips is some companies only use "tape". You can buy "tape" to put on your golf clubs, tennis rackets, baseball bats, bicycle handle bars.

Lew's rods are not tape.

Irod makes outstanding rods that are light, sensitive, & plenty back bone.

I simply don't like EVA!

2 of my rods have EVA.  The other 3 have Winns grips.   I don't dislike any of them.  I have noticed the EVA is slippery when it's hot, and I'm sweaty.  The Winns grips are slippery when it's cold and my hands are wet.   Or... it the glass is half full, instead of half empty.  The EVA grips are really good, tacky when it's cold.  The Winn grips are really good when it's hot.

I have a few rods with Winn grips, as does my son.  None of those rods have shown premature wear/fuzz/any problems.  I wonder if some of the problems reported are due to Deet-they, like most elastomers, are sensitive to Deet.

bicycle handle bars.

I wonder how much of the $16k of a Colnago C68 goes towards it's handlebar tape...

Apples and oranges, That thing is state of the art, spare no expense, you could walk into Walmart and buy something that looks like a bicycle for about $100. The part that amazes me, is just like in most other sports, enthusiasts are very eager to buy equipment designed for professional use, now what reel would match best with my NRX?....

A Steez SV TW, of course. BTW, not saying they don't, but I've yet to see a pro who's competitive using an NRX in a tournament. A Favorite is far more likely.

Almost 5 years and only the holy trinity knows how many casts later. No problems with the Winn grip, and it's a $79 DSG special which is often on sale for $59.
