Anyone recommend a good swim jig with hand tied skirt?

 

Ideally available in 5/16oz but I know most will be 1/4 and 3/8.

 

Colors don't matter I throw the usual green pumpkin/white/black blue.

 

Been using Kyle Welcher's Untamed Tackle Apex Swim Jig and love it except for the skirts don't hold on worth a crap.

@Siebert Outdoors makes a wide variety of incredible swim jigs.  You can get wire tied skirts and the color options are truly something to behold in person. That would be my recommendation without hesitation.

One I have been fishing a bit more recently is the Evergreen Grass Ripper Swim Jigs.

Really nice. 

I call it the Jack Hammer of swimjigs.

Been thinking about trying those, have you done any pitching/flip[ping with them? I like jigs that can pull double duty, seems to have a wide base.

I am regularly targeting smallmouth.

So while I might be over & around hard/soft cover,

rarely am I "In It".

The Ripper is built around a killer 4/0 hook,

which is where it all starts for me.

Not thin wire but definitely not a true Heavy Cover gauge either.

I'm usually throwing it on 15 lb FC and a MH Graphite stick ( St Croix Victory Rod)

The head design and that somewhat smaller hook size

is what makes this one a fan favorite on my rig.

Greenfish makes an outstanding swimjig.  The skirt is single layer handtied which gives it great flare.  The hook is just the right size and dia for a standard swimjig, same with the brush guard.  

 

I always have a swim jig or two tied on. I fish a handful of different brands, but you honestly can't go wrong with Siebert's. I like the Shot Caller the best, especially for fishing in/around cover. Mike is a site sponsor and also a great guy. 

Another vote for @Siebert Outdoors. They have a wide variety of colors, styles, and good quality jigs. Pricing is good as well! 

I’m a couple hours late to the party but I’m also a siebert customer. Best hooks in use and all the colors you could want.  The “swim jig” and “mini swim jig” are my

preference for grass. The pointy nose slides through nicely.  The shot caller comes through pad stems and wood great but the others are better for grass. 
 

I also like the dirty jigs swim jig. The 1/2 ounce (size I fish most) seems really compact and fishes grass well. 

Someone here pointed me toward Northstar Flip and Swim.  I use them in 1oz and have been very happy, has a nice body roll on the swim, stands up on the bottom, comes through cover with right amount of hang up to pop free.  I'm sure the 3/8 model would be similar.

If I can slightly hijack this thread, what are the pros of a wire tied skirt? Is it just that they last longer or are there more? The one pro I have taken advantage of with the banded skirts is the ability to change colors quickly on the water.

What I like about them is they don't break down and eventually fall apart like a standard rubber banded jig. 

 

I hate it when you grab a spinnerbait or jig out of the box and the skirt falls off because the band deteriorated and fell off.

I wouldn't limit myself to hand tied only, skirts are easily fixed with a few wraps of braided line and a dab of superglue.

With a silicon shirt and wire tie, that skirt isn't going to move, bunch up, or rot away.  You do lose the ability to swap on the water, but how often do you do that?  I only fish a fairly limited set of colors so I'll take permanence.

That's true.  But with wire tied you don't have to fix them at all.  And Sieberts has every color you could conceivable need on a range of heads and hooks.

this is definitely my choice.  Love the hook size on these, can't stand the giant tuna hooks most jigs come with.

That's true as well, I use to re-tie all my jigs out of the box but I fish jigs a lot more than I used to and came to the realization that I lose them well before wearing them out, gotta put em where no one else does!
