I do a good soak when I first spool up, then a few spritzes the night before a trip.

Cheers Applause GIF

It is line stretching time. I use a lot of mono/ co-poly. I find that walking off a hundred feet of line and stretching it out every few months is more beneficial than any time I tried KVD L&L.

I went the Flouro route last year. Decided to give it one more try. I bought some 8 and 10 lb Tatsu and some 15 lb Invisix. No KVD L&L. No casting issues. No real change in catch rate either.(going back to mono/co-poly).

I still have a bottle of KVD. I have no reason to use it.

I contacted the website that sells the KVD Line & Lure conditioner. They sell chemicals that are supposed to come with MDSS (materials data safety sheet) as required by federal law, but KVD & company has found a loophole or exemption they say they are not required to provide safety data along with their products.

His brother Randy and other family members started the company that sells it. I asked them for the MDSS or SDS (safety data sheet) and received this reply:

"Under the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard we are not required to maintain SDS's for the line conditioner because we do not sell to commercial accounts, only to the general public.  (1910.1200(g)(7)(vii))  You can obtain the Safety Data Sheet by contacting the manufacturer directly using the link below. Please let me know if you have any other questions."

https://www.dynovatech.com/feedback/contact/

I find it interesting they only consider providing safety data to commercial accounts, but to the general public which means all of us, we are not worthy of being supplied with safety data even though we are the primary customers and sufferers if poisoned by it.

What was the law created for in the first place if not for protection of all of us? Seems to me we should be the ones they are required to provide the safety data to.

Any hoo, I did receive the PDF MDSS from the manufacturer. It is public information required by federal law for chemical distribution primarily in case of emergency if anyone is poisoned by it, this MDSS is what doctors get when trying to save the lives of poisoned people. It is supposed to provide them with life saving information, but quite often the safety sheets are not fully filled out as companies try and hide proprietary secrets they don't want their competition getting a hold of to use against them.

And that appears to be the case with this product as well. There is minimal information and some line items not even filled out like its actual contents. Skipped. But they give doctors a 1-800 phone number to call them for the details they will need to provide life saving medical care rather than put that information on the MDSS where it belongs. That takes doctors extra time to receive life saving information. Its not supposed to be this way. Companies are skirting the law.

My opinion of course.

But some details from the report:

PAGE 1:

-Symptoms/effects after inhalation : May cause irritation to the respiratory tract.

-Symptoms/effects after skin contact : May cause skin irritation. Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking.

-Symptoms/effects after eye contact : May cause eye irritation. Symptoms may include discomfort or pain, excess blinking and tear production, with possible redness and swelling.

PAGE 2:

-Symptoms/effects after ingestion : May be harmful if swallowed. May cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

4.3. Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed Symptoms may be delayed. In case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately (show the label or SDS where possible).

-Fire hazard : Products of combustion may include, and are not limited to: oxides of carbon. Nitrogen oxides. Chlorine compounds. Silicon dioxide. Formaldehyde.

SECTION 6: Accidental release measures 6.1.

-Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures General measures : Use personal protection recommended in Section 8. Isolate the hazard area and deny entry to unnecessary and unprotected personnel.

-For containment : Contain and/or absorb spill with inert material (e.g. sand, vermiculite), then place in a suitable container. Do not flush to sewer or allow to enter waterways. Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

SECTION 7: Handling and storage 7.1. Precautions for safe handling Precautions for safe handling : Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Avoid breathing vapours. Do not swallow. Handle and open container with care. When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Hygiene measures : Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Always wash hands after handling the product. 7.2. Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities Storage conditions : Keep out of the reach of children.

PAGE 3:

Environmental exposure controls : Avoid release to the environment.

This report is 5 pages long so I'll skip most of it and get to page 4 conclusion:

SECTION 12: Ecological information 12.1. Toxicity Ecology - general : May cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment

SECTION 15: Regulatory information 15.1. Federal regulations All components of this product are listed, or excluded from listing, on the United States Environmental Protection Agency Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) inventory.

It is interesting that the manufacturer filled out the federally required MDSS without actually listing what is IN it. But doctors in emergency rooms across America please call 1-800 for details since they are not fully provided here where they are supposed to be.

I'll leave it up to the reader to decide whether this product is safe for each of you and what considerations anyone might have for environmental concerns.

The MDSS cannot be attached to this comment due to it being a PDF file so I am providing a download link if anyone wants a copy of it. Again, it is public info for all of us as required by federal law designed for our protection.

I just prefer to be fully informed.

I use KVD, maybe it's placebo but I feel like it helps especially with heavier line. An 8oz spray bottle has also lasted me 2+ years so far so the cost is negligible.

I’m not going to get into a drawn out discussion about whether it safe for anything or anyone. I’m not worried or even concerned what’s in it.
There are waning labels on everything that’s bought in this country as It’s left up to buyer to decide, as it should be.

I use it and have since it first came out and  have no intention of stopping or changing.

Me too, I appreciate your effort and sharing with us.

@KP Duty you said you use non fishing alternatives that perform the same. Any specific recommendations for product and your method for application?

@FloridaFishinFool: YIKES! Thanks for the heads-up.

I used it for years and it's fine. Really helps relax coiled line late in the season.

I no longer spray fresh line.

I don't use any conditioner. I have never tried it. I fish primarily mono, and I change my line often. Sometimes I'll change it after only 1 trip, sometimes it's once a month.

I remember as a kid, probably around 14 years of age, my cousin's uncle took me and him fishing on his bass boat. It's the only time I have been on a bass boat.

I was just learning how to use a baitcaster, and I had an Abu Garcia 4600 best I recall. I got a few backlashes, and on one of them, the guy offered to help with it. I don't remember asking for help.

Well, he got it out, and he said I had too much oil on the reel. So, he sprayed some line conditioner on my spool. It was like a gob of snot. None of us caught anything that trip.

Later on I inquired about maybe going again and the feedback I got was, he didn't want to pick backlashes out for me the whole time.

I feel the same way after using it a few times. Maybe it helped a bit, but not enough to justify one more thing to do the night before a tournament.

As in your dad?

As in, my cousin's dad's sister's husband. My mom and his mom were sisters.

I have never found the need to use a line conditioner, using trilene XL on my b/c or spinning reels. I do re-spool twice during the season. l will not use floro. I suppose if i did i would find the need .  $25 line and another $10 for conditioner- no thanks.

I’ll take it off your hands if you don’t want it. 😁

Great. Death by fishing chemicals.

I use the KVD stuff and can definitely tell a difference when used on big game mono and on various braids. Mono loses memory and is easier to manage. Braid casts smoother with it.

I use megiars ceramic infused spray, but any of the automotive detail sprays will work (they are all water based protectants).  I use the spray on my rod, reel, line, tackle boxes and boat.  I will apply it to a microfiber cloth and wipe down my rod/reel, and them mist the line when I get home from fishing.

I used to use KVD LC on fluorocarbon. I stopped using it some time ago and see no difference in line management.

Me too. I’ve used it off and on a few times over the past few years and I couldn’t tell any difference.
