Heat Dome.

Seems like a good time for this annual post with the dreaded ridge of high pressure set to park over a big portion of the country. I know some of you have been sweltering already for weeks, but large scale heat waves like these kill more people than all the other natural disasters combined.

Stay hydrated and limit your time outdoors during the middle of the day.

Here in North Jersey we've pretty much have had a cold wet spring, temps lately barely breaking 60.

Starting tomorrow we jump right into the middle of summer, low to high 90's for the next week

Yup, we're getting Domed this weekend.

I'll be downstairs in the relative cool working on my guest room reno.

Oh dear. I’d rather be outside sweating haha. Is flooring involved ?

Flooring is done! (and not by me). just a little drywall repair and painting at this point.

We're suppose to get it next week, mid 90's.

I'm running from it though, heading to a high plateau in WV for a week of smallmouth fishing......low 80's for highs.

We definitely don't need more rain here.

Lifelong southerner reporting in. Heat stoke is no joke. Seek shade. Stay hydrated. Keep curtains closed to help your HVAC out. If you've got to work outside, do it in the morning or evening. If you've got older neighbors, make sure they can get cool.

On a lighter note.

Our ancestral strategy tends to be to talk real slow, drink cold sweet tea, and mostly not move off the porch if we have to be outside. Seems to work well.

Even today at 64 when I'm fishing and the heat is bearing down, I jump in.

If you don't mind getting wet, it's instant AC but make sure you can swim 😁

Same. 90+ degrees both days with dew points in the 70’s means a heat index over 100.

My basement sounds pretty good too.

Luckily, these nasty humid heat domes rarely last longer than a day or two here, and then a Canadian cold front shows up. Which is exactly what is forecasted on Monday.

Not looking forward to the weather over the next week

or so. Gonna be rough, especially with our ailing HVAC

units. Heat is busted in both, downstairs AC works fine,

it's the upstairs I'm worried about. It works stead at 69

degrees for some reason. Put the stat up to 70 or 71 and

it will stop working for hours, so it stays at 69 (which is

a joy to sleep in, wife and I like it cold). Not thinking so

much of outdoor activities, though will inevitably do

something 😄.

I sure miss having a basement. No such joy in the

Hampton Roads area, though you can find some in

the Williamsburg and north regions. We're expecing

heat indexes hovering at or over 105. 🥵

Even we're forecast for one 92-degree day next week. We usually get one of those each summer. Fingers crossed this will be the only one.

@gim is right about heat killing the most Americans. Heat kills an average of 238 Americans each year. Flooding is second with 113 deaths.

Just over 37,000 annual vehicle deaths yearly on average.

So drive careful…………

I am in the East Coast crockpot and expecting the heat dome in full force.  I’m going to take the boat to my daughters farm and put it in one of her barns while an asphalt company comes out and reseals my driveway.  They did it last spring and over the winter, almost all of the sealer came off and gathered at the foot of my driveway next to the house.  Left the same rubber pellets you would find if someone was doing burnouts on dry pavement.  😝

We had more deaths than 113 from a single flood in September/October just last year, just in one area. I think there were plenty more in the coastal regions that weren’t included in that count

Ah yes, the vomit inducing aroma of dead rotting flesh in summer heat. :MSN-Emoticon-sick-146:

Ugh that time of year is here. Stay hydrated and stay out of the sun when possible everyone!

Diving right into summer here;

I like to think I'm tougher than I look but I'm not anymore!  This heat is a killer.  I went to the store and stocked up on food, water, and ammo.  Got the A/C set to "ice age"!

I'd rather be fishin', but....
