First 6+ on Grand Traverse Bay

Featured Replies

I want to start by giving a shout out to @Junk Fisherman. He was generous enough to narrow down Grand Traverse Bay to a manageable area as I was heading up to fish it for the first time. This morning was simply the best day I've had fishing for smallies.

I launched at 5:45 am and by 9:00 I had my PB and a 25 pound bag.

My 2nd cast produced a smallie just over 5 and 20 minutes later the PB went 6.52# and measured 22 1/4". The top 5 totalled 25.02 which is easily the best single day I've had. Not to mention, the craziest 3 hours of fishing I've experienced.

The tube produced the biggest fish, but I caught some with the dropshot. Screenshot_20250701_194629_Gallery.jpg.a8ad436117d948c0a5d80ce5b871b5b9.jpg

Nice work and beautiful fish! What kind of depths were you fishing?

A-Jay beat me to it. Congrats on the new PB & welcome to the 6lb club. I fished with a very well known guide & experienced fisherman on Erie out of Buffalo & he echoed your comment that the bigger fish always come on dragging a tube but more frequent bites on the drop shot based on his experience.

Wow congratulations on a heck of a day and a monster fish.

Everything is pointing me to GTB lately and I haven’t had a chance to get there! Soon…
