Seriousness that I can think of ......I devote a serious amount of time to fishing.

I'm serious about preparation and safety.

@OldManLure nope you are 100% correct!

@Tackleholic everyone has what makes it fun for them! Not knocking anyone who does those things. I just know where I’m at in my fishing career or lack there of 😂

@Don Preller i do enjoy the puzzle as well.

@DaubsNU1 same! My log actually out together as a photo album.

@Bird safety I am serious about that!

I don't think you're atypical at all.

Although I kind of think anybody who spends time on a forum like this is more serious than the average angler.  For my part, I suppose I'm a mix of the serious and non-serious -- as are most of us on the forum, I expect.

I have quite a few more setups than I need, and many technique-specific, but most are "decent" at best -- no real high-end gear.

I don't have or even want a boat, and I fish out of paddle-only kayaks light enough for car-topping, which arguably makes me less "serious" than most of the folks I encounter on the water.  Sometimes I fish from shore or wade, but I probably bring too much tackle when I do.

I always hope to break my PB, but I don't go out with that as the main goal (i'd fish a lot differently, at different times and places, if that were the case). I do take measurements and keep records of everything I catch, but that's mostly because I'm data-obsessive and I can't stand not knowing....it's more of a nervous tic than anything.

I know that is an oxy moron so let me explain. I love fishing. I want to be out doing it.  I have decent equipment. A decent boat. Nothing crazy. I do not keep up with the latest fads and trends. I do not go out with the intent of breaking my PB. I never keep track of how many I’ve caught. I do not really measure anything. I just enjoy going out. I want to catch some fish, have a good time and come home safe.

Can anyone else relate to this?

Amen

I’m pretty much the same most days. I do like to measure/weigh the bigger ones, mostly just to satisfy my own curiosity. I enjoy small/club type tournaments and don’t really mind/care if I’m in contention or just donating. If I blank for the day, I don’t care - getting on the water is a “W”.

When we were younger it was more about the chase. Had to be the first on the water, always went after the most fish, largest fish, just one more fish, etc.

Now we really just enjoy the day on the water, catching fish is still the preferred result but any day on the water is a good day.

I am serious about tying my canoe to Susky's jet boat one day. What a ride that'll be!

I am unserious about this post.

Susky, I fish exactly the way you said it. No plans to change a thing.

@A-Jay  With some modifications.......

I love fishing.

I want to be out doing it.

I have decent equipment.

A decent kayak.

Nothing crazy.

I do keep up with the latest fads and trends.

I do not go out with the intent of breaking my PB. (I go out to enjoy the experience and do the best that I can do and learn something)

I keep track of how many I’ve caught.

I don't measure bigger bass. (I don't measure any bass now)

I am thankful for the liquid slice of heaven that I'm on.

I want to catch some fish,

have a good time and come home safe!

@Swamp Girl I can tell you right now you would have been embarrassed with my lack of stealth today 😂😂 I was playing plinko with the boat.

I despise the term " fun fishing "  it is used most by people who pay $40 each week to enter a tourna ment . Do as you will but do not for a minute think that I am not serious about my fishing . Rigging rogs changing hooks studying water to fish is a part of daily life for me even though I choose not to compete .
