Fell out of the boat today.

Featured Replies

Went to the bank to grab a tree limb to relieve myself and the boat slipped out from under me. I was in 3’ of water but fell anyway. The  automatic vest worked.  I managed to get back in after a long time while and found my cap, sunglasses and new rod I built a few weeks ago missing but didn’t see it.  Got my cap and went home figuring I’ll get it tomorrow. Called my son to ask what to do about the IPhone and he said they’re waterproof.  Removed the case and put it in a box of rice. Banged my back on something and am in pain but it could have been a lot worse.  My neighbor is going to don a mask and retrieve the glasses and rod tomorrow.  I did manage to catch a LM for the Georgia Bass Slam.

It can happen to anyone and happen in an instant. I am glad you are basically OK.

d**n the bumps and bruises, best find that rod & reel!

Seriously, glad you’re reasonably well.

Glad you came out of it relatively unscathed.

Dang it, Alex. I think the most likely time to fall into the water is right by the shore. I've read a couple other accounts of that happening to Bass Resource members and that's how it happened to me too. In my case, I'd hooked one rod's lure to a tree and as I tried to free it, I hooked another off the other end of the canoe to different tree. Then I tipped too.

I think your rod will be found. I suspect the sunglasses floated away, but fingers crossed they're found too.

You are one tough man.

Rest, heal, and climb back on the horse/boat. I've never fallen off my boat accidentally, yet.

Glad you are relatively OK and proved your vest worked. Also great you actually had it on!

I almost went over twice myself to do the same thing. After the second time I now keep one of the larger gaterade bottles tucked away in the boat so I never have to deal with banking it or balancing on the edge. Just dump it and rinse it.

I keep a disposable container on board;  it makes the act safer, eliminates "dribbling" on the boat, and does not foul the water.

Thank goodness that you came out okay!  Rest up and heal so you can keep making those bass sore lipped!

Hopefully you played the Lottery. Good thing you were wearing your vest. Get some rest.

Hope you find the rod. If there's a bright side at least you fell in during the Summer when water is warm 🙂 I've lost a rod and reel overboard but it was April and too cold, windy and too deep to try and find it.

FYI, putting your wet phone in rice can cause more damage as dust and rice particles can get inside. Not recommended.

Ya - your best bet is to get a bunch of Silca Gel packs and toss 1/2 a dozen or so in a plastic bag with the phone. But I'm willing to bet that the phone will need replacement.

That's why my phone case is one rated to withstand a dunking...not an extended stay underwater, but a couple minutes or so.

Is this what we call an "inelegant exit" in the other thread?

Next time put your polls down.  If no polls, tie off on the branch.  That scenario sounds like a situation I use.   Too much going on what should be a simple task.  :occasion14:

Same here. I bought a urinal bottle off of Amazon last year because I have had balance issues the past few years. It works great as far as I'm concerned.

I always get a big laugh out of my fishing buddies when I tell them it's the best investment I have made in my boat in years.

Glad your safe, but the most important question...is the robe ok?

I've been using this for over a decade.  It's safe, keeps the boat clean, and I don't need privacy to use it.  I just kneel down in the well.  $5.50 at Walmart

I just started peeing my pants. All the cool kids are doing it these days…

”hey look everybody. Billy peed his pants!”

I thought that they sat down first.
