Getting ready to get some new rods need some good advice!

Featured Replies

I am currently in the market for a few new rods. I primarily bass fish and have a few panfish and redfish set ups. The new ones will be for bass and will be a few casting and a few spinning. I currently have G.Lomis NRX’s, Megabass (all different models) and St .Croix legend elites.

I want something in a price pint. Slow these that is still a great rod or bang for the buck. I would say anything under $300.00.  Any help would be great !

Expride, Tatula Elite, Cara, Expert?

Dobyns Champion series.

Slightly under your $300 price with a lifetime warranty.

That's Cara territory for me.  They are $250 right now and I expect they are going up to $280 shortly.

Is this a trustworthy site? What does it come out to in USD?

Yes, it's trustworthy.

Google "xxxxx yen to dollar" - example, the 264ML+..."36105 yen to dollar" comes to $244.33

On the settings tab of the site you can change the currency to USD

I'd order a '24 Poison Adrena from Japan Lure Shop.

Be careful ordering from Japan right now. Depending on the duties that will be added to the order it might end up costing almost as much as buying from a US retailer. Not to mention the fact that if you buy from Japan you get now warranty.

I'm a huge Kistler fan.  They're light and sensitive, made in Texas.  In addition to 'normal' ML, M, MH, and H power rods, Trey has what he calls light/medium-heavy (LMH) and heavy/medium-heavy (HMH) power ratings as go betweens for customers that want, say a medium heavy butt section but a medium tip.  I have LMH spinning and casting rods that make great Senko/tube/1/4 oz jig rods.

You can save money by signing up for his emails and catching sales he has pretty frequently.

Best of luck adding to your arsenal.

Not to mention Kistler’s excellent return policy and on hand availability of models.

I’ll add to Kistler’s customer service stories. I called Kistler Rods to pay for my wife’s custom rod invoice and Trey answered the phone. He spent a couple minutes to talk to me about the build.

I wonder if you’ll get the owner if you call other high end rod companies to pay an invoice.

I have heard good things, forgot all about Kistler. Thank you

I order from JLS all the time...it's a popular and trustworthy site.  Shipping for a PVC rod tube via fedX is 5900 yen ($40).  Just got a rod from them  last month.  No customs duties if its under $650.

That’s not true anymore. De minimis is gone for all countries unfortunately.

Shimano expride, before Monday when prices go up.

I have an Expride spinning rod and was very disappointed. You can here the line (8lb fluoro) going through the guides and the casting distance isn't great. I have Loomis, St. Croix's, Okuma's  Fenwicks and Ark rods and none of them do that. Weird

Okuma X series is in your ball park, check them out!
