Fishing sunglasses suggestions

Featured Replies

There are some good sales going on right now and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts for my first fishing sunglasses. I am willing to spend around or a little over $100.

I must have missed the glasses with built in bi-focal/readers for us old guys!! LOL 😆

I'm currently using KastKing Ellijay (with readers) and they've been quite good! And reasonably priced to boot.

Ty.  Good to know.  I have Onos and Costa readers and I am less than perfectly satisfied with either.  The Onos are great when new-ish, but I am hard on them and don't get more than a year out of them.  (Note that @A-Jay takes better care of his and hasn't mentioned any problems.)  The Costas are superior lenses, but I find that the bifocal reader portion is too small for me.)

I like costas. I’ve used them for about 5 years now. Previously always used a pair of 15 dollar cheapies that wore out every season until I was gifted costas.

Finding a pair for around 100 bucks might be a challenge right now. I have fantails with the poly lenses. I didn’t care for the weight of the glass lenses when I tried them on.

That's been my issue. Or lost.

For the $40-$50 these can be had for, I quite like them. There's 3-4 styles with magnification up to 2.5x

I have/had prescription costas. Reason I say have/had is that my prescription has changed. I go see the doctor on the 17th and plan on replacing them with new prescription lenses I’ve been wearing costas for almost 2 yrs now and love them.

For the non-blind folks, I have several pair of knockarounds as well as goodr. Those are really good glasses, polarized lenses, many different styles, cool names and run between $25-$45 generally.

I love my Oakley prizm h2o polarized sunglasses. I really like the tint. They’re great in bright sunlight but they aren’t too dark for when it’s overcast or the beginning of dusk.

I also really like the fact that they’re impact rated. You never know when a bass is gonna spit your bait at the last second and send it flying back at you! :glasses9:

Smith Optics w/ readers.

Cocoons is having a 20% off sale.  Just ordered a pair of fit overs with polarized amber transitional lenses for $72.  This is my third pair, I've been using them for years.

I don't do anything special really.

My shades are either on my face or in the case they came in.

That's about it.

Sounds special to me...lol.  I may still have the case, but it has never been used.

I wear scrips with progressive lens. I priced some new ones locally and they wanted 600 dollars just for the lens. I walked out. There comes a time where the price becomes to steep and they have reached it. I might regret it but I ordered a pair of polarized sunglasses online for 200 dollars.

Because I don't want to invest in prescription sunglasses, the Cocoons fit overs have been a great choice for me. I have three different shades of their polarized glasses that I use under different conditions.

I have two pair of SolarBat's (in the floating version, one pair with MossBack lens for bright sun, one with Amber lens for low light conditions, non-prescription) ----- the owner is a Dr. of Optometry so my guess is their prescription lens would be pretty good (but I have non-prescription so I cannot speak to that personally) ---- I was able to purchase mine during sales for right about $100 per pair (and they came with a "free" pair of safety glasses and a hard case --- not sure the current sale would offer that)            Solar Bat - Eye Care Professionals - Sunglasses Men & Women

***looks like the current sale might be up to 50% off

I also have a pair of Oakley Half Jacket sunglasses that I have owned/worn for 25 years -- they have inter-changeable/replaceable lens (I am on a third pair of lens only because of lens getting scratched /dropped, not bad for 25 years) -- they have been used constantly over those 25 years (I used to work year round outside) -- survived travel to many different parts of the world, blazing hot/brutal cold, saltwater, freshwater -- and the frames are still going strong -- not sure what they cost now a days. I find the Solarbat's to be better fishing glasses -- but I wear the Oakely's for everything else.

I always tell people to check out Sunclouds.  These are my everyday driving glasses but I've worn them often while fishing.  They are great glasses for $50-$60 and I say this while comparing them to my Costas which are 4-5x more.  If you are going with Costas, check out Ebay.  I have bought 2 pairs for way under retail.  You need to be smart and look at the seller's history but you can find some great deals.  My first pair needed to be replaced and I had no issues when I sent them in to Costas.  I just bought a pair last weekend (sunrise silver mirror for low light conditions) for $110 and free shipping.  First thing I will do when they arrive is inspect them to verify they are authentic.  Ebay will refund your money if they are fake.

I recieved my prescription sunglasses from Zenni yesterday. I went with the most expensive lens with infrared blocking technology. I've had torn retina's  in both eyes ,so I figure the more protection the more better. I selected amber lens but the infrared blocking gives it a red mirrored finish that I wasnt expecting. They look kind of cool. So I walked through the neighborhood to test them and the polarization seems real good. There were lots of light reflecting puddles and I  was able to see right through them. Total cost,   200 dollars.

I’ve had costa, Rayban’s, and a few others, liked them all.

But now, I grab the ones in the fishing section at Walmart. They are under $20 and not a bad pair of shades. Just check them to be sure the whole lens is polarized and not just a strip in the middle of the lens.

I’m hard on glasses when they get dirty I usually dip them over board, knock off excess water on my leg. Then dry them with my shirt.

Check out Stewart discount fishing. He usually has older Costa models for $100 ish and is great to do business with.
