Replacement skirt question

Featured Replies

My wife bought me a spinnerbait 2 summers ago and the skirt wore off so I bought a package of replacement skirts because I really like that spinnerbait. My question is this, Can I use those replacement skirts on jigs too or do jigs have different replacement skirts? Hopefully this isn’t a stupid question. Thanks for the reply’s

Yes, a shirt's a skirt.

Variables include but may not be limited to color, obviously.

The skirt length, bulk, and material used.

But whatever you do, do not forget to change out the winter air to summer air in your tires.

I go through a lot of skirts on my spinner baits and bladed jigs due to pike slashing them up.

They all seem pretty interchangeable. But the Zman ez skirts seem to be the best option.

I keep a couple EZ skirts in the boat that I have taken off lures. Super easy when you break a skirt band mid trip. If I’m doing up lures in the winter (due to start on that this week) I’ll use regular bands and tabbed skirt material. And if I’m really feeling like putting a little more effort into it I’ll wire tie them.

This might be useful:

...wait, I don't use summer or winter air in my tires. I just use spring air to give them more bounce.

I need to order a small spool of copper wire and just sit down and wire tie all my jigs and spinner baits. I HATE it when I go to grab a jig or something that has been sitting in the box for a while and the band has deteriorated causing the skirt to just fall apart.

It's one of the many things I like about Sieberts jigs and spinner baits, in that I always choose to have them hand-tied!! Well worth the small charge to do it!!

yeah, every one I buy from mike is wire tied. It just makes for a permanent solution. The skirt never moves on the jig, it never wears out the band or falls off. If you want to use an elaztec trailer you don't worry about the trailer melting the band. It's just a better solution. Hand tying them with braid or thread is also a good choice.

Wire tie, braid or thread tie is my favorite. I wire tie a lot less than thread tie though. Jigs and spinner baits last til ya lose them that way

I like the zman skirts as well. Sometimes I take some craft wire and tie a few wraps forward/behind the band to prevent the dry rot issue. I started doing that for my cheap mini bladed jigs as well.

20 to 24 Guage Craft wire is the best wire to use. That green wire for tomato stakes will rust and break.

That's why I was just going to order small copper wire stock. No rust to worry about.

Does the craft wire you mentioned hold up ok? What material is it?

I change out skirts and sometimes get creative with them. Z man skirts are definitely my favorite as well.

Just did a quick search on Lowes.com and could not locate.

Thanks

Craft wire is copper based and flexible. I have used it for years with no problem.

Do you have to keep the Z-Man skirts away from other skirts?

Are they made out of the same stuff as their plastics?

Thanks in advance!

You can go to a craft store and get some floral wire comes, in green, silver or copper.

I have a few rolls of the silver floral wire and wrap my skirts (both existing and replacements) with it.
