Trucker hats

Featured Replies

This style hat has been a trend for fishing hats the last several years. I know many people like them and they vent heat better. I have a short military style haircut, and those holes will definitely allow the side and back of my head to burn. I also don’t want to put suntan lotion on my head and then slap a hat on top of it. The Simms gaiters work well but mid summer my head gets super hot wearing one with a hat.

Not a fan of the way they look either. They remind me of our little league hats from the 80s. It seems like a trend now, everybody is using that style. How does everyone else like them?

I didn’t know they were a trend or newly popular. Literally the only style hat I have ever worn since I’m like 16. So the last 20 years.

As far as sun burn I always wear a long sleeve hooded sun shirt in the summer.

Yes, they have always been around but now most of the hats have adopted that style. I’m 50 years old and I’ve been wearing hats every day since college. I have photosensitivity because of a medical condition. 10 years ago there were many more traditional hats.

I don’t use the hooded sunscreen shirts because I don’t like the material but I know that’s an option and a good idea.

A John Deere ball cap will help catch more & bigger fish, plus you'll look good. 😁 I do wear a Sun gaiter and when I start getting hot enough that I start leaving at 1030 am, I swap to night fishing.

I also am bald and also burn with trucker hats. Not much else to add - but I feel your pain! 😂

I started wearing the sun shirt and the hood protects my scalp on top of the mesh hat part.

I hate sunscreen.

My lucky hat - it's older than quite a few members here.

Picked it up at the 1982 concert in Lincoln, NE.

I dont own a trucker hat. We are talking about the ones with foam fronts ? I dont like the looks of them either. I wear ball caps or a full brim hat.

I also don't like their look and all-cotton hats are comfy.

Many of them do. They all have the plastic mesh back and sides.

No mesh for me, what hair is left is short.

Head sunburn sucks, also when it's hot out I'm always dipping my hat in the water to cool off.

The only thing that really matters is bend the d**n bill.

Oh, and if it came with a sticker, take that d**n thing off as well.

Been wearing trucker hats my whole adult life (which isn’t too long) 😂. Whether it’s at work, fishing, going to the store, I usually have a hat on.

I’ve been getting into wearing cowboy hats out on the water recently though.

Did it come with more cowbell?

I’ve been wearing hats for the better part of 40 yrs now. So much so that my “friend” at Walgreens doesn’t recognize me without my hat unless I say something to her first. I wear all kinds. Currently, it’s a trash pandas (or MiLB Anaheim Angels feeder team) trucker style hat. Since I’m a high school sports official, I have become very fond of Richardson hats. I spent 20 yrs in the military and have a short, military style cut as well. I can get burned on my head, but I always wear a sun shirt with the hood pulled up.

Sobro has a bunch of light and vented hats. They do the 6th Sense hat out right now thatyou might have seen. A really nice product and cool designs but... I have a head the same size as the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs, and their biggest cut is not big enough.

I also use an Army surplus boonie hat.

@lavbasser I mean I wish I didn’t have to wear anything either haha. I picked the less of the evils. I don’t forget to put my sun shirt or my hat on. I hated sun screen and always forgot it put it on.

I have worn regular baseball hats for over 50 years. Mesh ones in the summer non mesh in the winter. When I moved to Mexico I started wearing visor golf hats when out fishing. Lots of hair so no sunburn. I am currently undergoing treatment for Melanoma. I am going to buy one of those hats with flaps on the back to block the sun from my neck. I always thought people wearing those looked like idiots, but I guess I will now look like an idiot. I don't like hooded shirts, so idiot hat it is.

Full top knot and then some. I never really cared for the baseball type hats but I used them when I first started. Now my headgear of choice is the military boonie hat with the sides stitched up Aussie style in the camo du jour. One simply can't have mismatched camo patterns. That is the ultimate fashion fau pas.

@HawkeyeSmallie that’s a negative.

The more bent the bill, the less sun coverage it provides. And the New Era Authentic MLB caps absolutely keep the sticker.

I mostly use what I call a slouch baseball cap, not ones with the stiff front where they put logo’s and such. If I’m going to hide from the sun I have an Overland Breezer.

If I'm on my boat, walking a shoreline or working in the yard... Tilley T-6 wide brim, (there it is in my avatar) anywhere else I'm wearing a Green Bay Packers ball cap.

Never let an oppurtunity to show fish pics go to waste. Big Boat ball cap because a full brim is a pain in the butt on plane. little boat, full brim hat.
