Pink/Morning Dawn Football Jigs

Featured Replies

  • Super User

Last year I got killed in a tournament by a guy fishing a pink jig with a pale blue craw trailer.

So I reached out to California Reservoir Lures and asked if they could make me somethingl like it in morning dawn. Below is what they came up with. It goes beyond my expectations. The pictures don't do it justice. The colors also shift depending on the light. It should be killer.

Anyone else fish a pink jig? What do you guys think?

I haven't but I did just have a guy order some white football jigs. I guess something I might have to try sometime.

LS Lures makes a morning dawn offering in pretty much every jig they make. I got a swim jig, flipping jig and two finesse jigs in MD from him at the bassmaster classic. You can see them on the right side next to the shirt's logo. Have yet to try them but I'm excited! Especially for the finesse jigs being a spotted bass guy.

I've not. But I decided to give this guy a try a few years back on a gin clear smallie lake and I couldn't keep them off the end of my line. Also got a few LM as well.

@FishTank and @Bluebasser86 Until late last year I never would have thought of those colors as being useful, but since I realized that footballs are a great swim jig option I can totally see pink/white entering my bag. Is that your plans or is this a dragging thing?

@softwateronly I kinda move a white football jig faster than anything else. I use pearl/off white or translucent trailers. It seems to work from time to time but its definitely not my go to.

For the pink/morning dawn, you would think clear water would be best but when I fish pink stuff I am usually throwing it in slightly stained, but not muddy, water. I plan on fishing them just like any other football jig. I'll throw them around stumps and laydowns, I'll drag it on bottom, slow roll it on rocks, and I'll probably bounce it off the bottom in deeper water.

I have some pink wacky worms but have never fished them.

For some reason I don't throw wacky's anymore.

I guess I mostly fish Neko rigs now on spinning.

The guy that bought these is planning on fishing them like a standard football jig according to what he was saying, mostly for smallmouth.

I've have had alot of requests and sold many Morning Dawns in about everything I make.

The pros go crazy for Neko rigging the Berkeley Magnum Hit Worm in Mimizu (pink JDM color).

Pinks been a huge inshore/river color here since forever. I bought some bubblegum senkos back in the day and smashed some smallies on them out of state, but havent devoted too much effort to slining them at greenfish.

I dont know how they perceive pink, but purple and red work, so wouldn't pink be like an in-between color?

1 thing is for sure, morning dawn works in clear water in a DS or ned rig, why not a jig or senko?

Even if it doesnt catch fish, every major bulk skirt retailer has been sold out of every shade of pinks, morning dawns, light purple and like shades. Even if pink never catches another fish in North America, its already caught thousands of anglers and it wont stop anytime soon.

Correct.

I've never tried that color, but I use those spinnerbaits a lot. Now I have to get that color now...thanks a lot. 😂

In one of the lakes I fish, rainbow trout are one of the primary prey species for the larger predators. Pink & white spinnerbaits have been effective there. I might also consider using them in pressured water where a chartreuse & white spinnerbait isn't working.
