Yes, we're going to have a test drive and two hours on a water drive with their captain before getting it.

That’s great. I think you will find out pretty quick if you like how the boat performs on not. Test driving is a luxury that most places do not offer.

That's great news.

Perhaps consider also test riding

something similar with a 150 hp motor first. Then you'll see the difference and have a decent comparison. Bring at least 2 friends to simulate the performance of a loaded rig when there is gear and a full gas tank. Watch the tachometer and speedometer while riding on plane.

RPMs on the tach that are over 9000 means the motors working pretty hard.

Good Luck.

@A-Jay

I'm not familiar with 115 hp outboard but have owned 40-60-75hp Mercury's and all handled 6K rpms without issues.

Do agree though that an undersized engine will work harder.

OK, thanks.

I made an edit to the post you are referring to.

I feel pretty good about this one.

Only thing I’d really be concerned with is the trolling motor. The 115 can be made to move it around pretty good with some prop tweaking and height adjustments.

You can probably get the dealer to install a current Helix/Eagle/Garmin (or 2!) as part of the deal as well.

Hi everyone,

I visited the boat center today and took some pictures of the locations for the battery, bilge pump, and other components. I also spoke with the salesman about upgrading the trolling motor from 50 lb to 80 lb. He said they can do it, but I’ll need to pay the price difference.

He is going to contact APEX Marine to get the details on the hull warranty as well as the Mercury warranty.

Tomorrow I’m going back to speak with the service manager about the upgrades. I also remembered, after talking to @J._Bricker , that I’m going to upgrade the batteries to two 12V batteries for starting and house power, and one 24V lithium battery for the trolling motor in the middle. By the way, this boat comes with a custom cover, so we won’t need to purchase one in the future.

Please let me know if I’m missing anything.

@A-Jay Did you mean 6,000 RPM's?

I don't know what I mean.

Sounds like they are motivated sellers- That's a good thing.

OK, How about the trailer tires ?

While they might have never been on the road and even kept in a climate-controlled space,

I'd like to know when they were made so I know how old they actually are.

It's easy to read right on the tire sidewall itself.

DOT Tire Identification Number

dot information on a tire sidewall

One of the many codes you'll find on the tire's sidewall is the tire DOT code.

It may seem confusing at first, but knowing how to read the DOT number on your tires can be really helpful.

There are varying opinions on at what 'age' a trailer tire & spare should be replaced.

Because trailer tires face unique stressors like heavy loads and long periods of sitting unused, it is generally recommended to replace them every 3 to 6 years, regardless of tread depth.

3 years old and not used is still three years old.

If the born-on date is something in 2022 or older.

I'd be asking for actual new tires.

Snap a pic of the DOT ID number on the tire with your phone, and Google will do the rest.

Good Luck

@A-Jay Thank you so much for the old tiers up. Yesterday, they mentioned that they would change the tires but not the wheels.

However, we’ve run into a small issue: since the boat is out of production, we apparently no longer have hull warranty coverage. This hull originally had a lifetime warranty, but APEX Marine is now refusing to honor it (this is what the dealer told us today). At the same time, I’ve seen online that APEX Marine still honors the warranty.

I think the best approach is for us to contact APEX Marine directly and clarify the situation. The salesperson doesn’t seem to know much about this specific boat.

Plus, I found the same boat in a center console version with a Suzuki 140, an 80 lb trolling motor, and 9” and 12” fish finders.

The engine has only 70 hours on it.

The price is $24,000 before tax, but it’s about 3,000 miles away from us. Do you think it’s something worth considering?

If you decided on that one you could pick it up and fish all the way across the country.
