Kidney stones

Fishing has been put on hold once again. Went to the emergency room Sunday because a stone started moving. I've passed one once before but it concluded in less than 24 hours. This one is being stubborn and I get attacks everyday. No way I'm going fishing . Its a 2mm stone and may take up to six weeks to pass all the way through. Theres a second one still in the kidney biding its time. Nothing can be done. I have some pills but they dont give a lot of relief. Fishing has been good too.

Doesn't sound fun. Hang in there. The fish will be waiting for you when the stone is passed.

Been there and done that over 60 times, passed them all. Several were 6 - 7mm boulders. Azo & Flomax really help me pass them. A hot tub can give you some relief from the pain.

60 times. I feel for you.Whats the average time to pass one?

I have flomax but my prostate was removed long ago, so dont know if that will help or not.

I've pass some after a few hours of discomfort and had a 6mm take two excruciating weeks, but most take 2-5 days. The Flomax helps me pass them and my prostate is intact and normal. I believe it helps dilate all the plumbing. I only take it when I have a stone tearing it's way through. The Azo will help with the damage the stone does to your kidney, ureter, and urethra.

I think the little cocklebur finally passed. Had an uneventful night. Blood in my urine but thats all . I hope it went on through and not hanging about in my bladder.

Good. Don't worry, if it made it to your bladder it'll come on out. Your ureter is much smaller than your urethra.

I wish I had no knowledge of such things.

I think there are two things I wouldn’t wish on my enemies, kidney stones and shingles.

Im a veteran as well, im around 50-60 myself. I will tell you that although you're passing blood, if you haven't felt that last sharp pain of it exiting, it's still in there. I've been using the jump and bump method for years now, seems to work and speeds up the process. No meds for me.

What I did whenever I was in pain was the following: drink a lot of water, do 60 jumps (abrupt landing) 1 per second, then drink water again, do 60 more jumps. This helped completely ease the pain. Every time the stone would hurt in the ureter I would do the jump & bump method and every time the pain would go away.

I've passed my share. The last one was so large I needed lithotripsy. Lots of good advice here, but none about how to drink lots of water. There are a couple things you can do that make drinking a lot of water easier.

  1. Room temperature.

  2. Find a wide gauge straw. Minimum McDonald's size, but "smoothie" straws are best.

I would draw lines on a 1gal jig to separate it into quarters. Then set an alarm for 15 minute intervals. Every 15min=¼ gal.

Good luck

I think I passed it. I had a dicharge yesterday where a pretty large mass splashed down in the stool. Too big for a stone but I'm thinking maybe a stone encased in tissue and blood. Had no problems since.

I'll add gout to that list.

I have a second one, I'll be sure to give this a try when it makes a move.

Brother...I have no idea how you jump and do abrupt landings. Softly walking down steps made my insides feel like electric jello. Took a solid 2-3 weeks after it passed to not feel pain walking a little too roughly.

I had one in my life that lasted 2 weeks from first sign of blood to passing. Easily the worst pain I've had in my life and I've had 4 open heart surgeries. First time I experienced morphine (heavenly until i found out I was allergic) and the first and only time I've asked for any type of pain meds. Right before I left they gave me anti-nausea meds due to the pain killers and they must have injected an air bubble. Due to my weird heart plumbing that air bubble went right to my head and gave me a mini stroke/TIA and kept me in the hospital for a week. Overall the entire kidney stone experience is a 0/10.

I wish you speedy recovery and no repeat events.

Water, flowmax and tart cherry juice (the real stuff, not the sugary stuff) helped pass it.

I must have passed it and had a good fishing trip Monday and a Cardioversion Tuesday.

I’ve had numerous stones. Lithotripsy or lazer are the only measures that worked. Both procedures are fast and they put you under.

That's how I found out I was allergic to opiods as well.

Back to normal. It took almost a week to pass that thing.

Sending good vibes your way…. Been there too.

Oh Lord, have mercy. I've had a few of these in my life. First was in

High School. Didn't know what hit me, but I almost broke the walls

of the toilet stall, LOL. The rest in my 40s and 50s. Absolute worst

pain I have ever had. Been in the ER a couple times. Spilled my guts

each time when my wife and I decided, yeah, let's get me to the ER.
