PSA Coikes are tuff be careful

Inserting dice rig into hag and the wire bent and rolled the hook into my finger.IMG_0358.jpeg

Yikes. But i'm not surprised. Those frog hooks scared me to the point of running a drill through the Hags.

The Coikes aren't as bad but it's still dangerous. Sorry that happened.

Brutal was the physician assistant in the emergency room trying to get it out, first she came in with 18” bolt cutters and started mangling my finger and when I told her it wouldn’t work she tried harder. Eventually she went and got a small pair of diagonal cutters and clipped it apart and then pushed the hook through the other side of the finger.

OUCH!! Rough way to spend a day right there!!

Did they let you keep the coike? If they knew the (perceived) value, they’d probably have confiscated it…😂😂

They asked me if I cared about the lure I told them I was most concerned about going home with the finger. Those hags are tough first she tried to remove it with a scissor and then when that didn’t work she went and got a scalpel and even that took some time and effort to cut through it.

Yeee- Ouch!!!

Sorry that happened to you, but dude,…. that X-ray is cool!

Wish they would have gave me one of those.

How sore is it today?

Most importantly however…how do you like the dice rig?

Dice rig is ok I prefer the Reneau trigger rig, less missed bites and everyone so far has been in the top of their mouth. Also much easier to rig.

I have the freak-o rig and I don’t think I’m a fan.

I keep a DHUKR is my bag and one on the boat. Saved a few strangers from ER visits with it. Anyone else use one?

Hope you mend quickly from your mishap!

I'm sorry that happened. A trip to the ER isn't fun, especially when the doc doesn't have a lot of experience with hooks.

I just ordered one,not sure if it would of helped in this cases with the urchin in place and the weight of the dice rig in the way, I tried to rip it out with a pair of pliers twice but couldn’t get it out.

I have some compact bolt cutters (8" Capri Klinge favored)....remove what you can to get better access, if need be. Again, a PITA to carry an extra tool...but it's the difference between staying on the water and visiting the ER room. Extremely handy tool you have on the boat when the need arises.

I actually made a gift for a buddy with a DHUKR and small bolt cutter in a vacuum sealed bag. There's a card on bag that reads: "In case of stupidity, open bag". LOL 😆

Glad you're all mended!

I put a small electrical wire nut over the hook now and when not in use it lives in the cup holder on the boat.
