Whats You Favorite "big Bass" Lure?

Featured Replies

I guess it depends on what you consider big. For my bass over 7 pounds, I've caught them on lipless crank, jerkbait, chatterbait, jig, wacky rigged senko, and a baby brush hog. Lipless is my most productive big fish bait, but it could just be confirmation bias that I'm seeing there because I just enjoy throwing it more than most other presentations. So do I throw it because it produces, or is it producing because I throw it?

I don't know if I believe 100% in the "big bait, big fish" idea. It does work, but as they say, elephants eat peanuts, too.

  • Catching bass of any size is about location more than it is about lure selection. Gary Klein explained it best this way, if there was a Bush in the back of a cove with a 5# bass in it & Denny Brau

  • When I fished tourneys, I'd target kicker fish with a buzzbait. There were times when I'd end up culling the majority of fish in the live well.  Now, when I target big fish, big worms worked painstaki

I’ve caught the majority of my fish over 4 lbs on a black Ol monster.

but I’ve caught most of my fish over 6 on a frog.

‘dunno

My lure I’ve caught lots of bass and big bass on is a senko wacky rigged. I would be lying if I told you any other lure or plastics.

A bass over 5 lbs here is big, with 6 lbs being enormous. Anything over 4 is a quality fish that I'd be happy to catch in a given outing.

Baits for me that seem to disproportionately attract larger bass are a 1/2 oz spinnerbait,  crayfish texas rigged (rage-craw, keitech crazy flapper) and a good sized topwater (large walking bait or whopper plopper).

My biggest on a ribbon tail worm. The next 5 on a senko wacky rigged. Would’ve had (my newest) PB on a senko if she didn’t get off ? spinnerbaits/Chatterbaits are catching up.

My biggest bass has been caught on a jig and pig, my second largest came on a 3XD, and most of my big fish have come on jigs, crankbaits, and a shakyhead worm.

When I was actively fishing tournaments, we bought these craws 1,000 at a time.

Slammer and a real prey swimbait have been the best big bait for me, they have caught the most big bass for me.

I think catching big fish is mostly about fishing around big fish, my PB came on a 4" Senko, and I've caught big fish on all sorts of lures large and small, but that being said, a spinnerbait (particular ones around this time through the spawn) gets me some of my biggest every year, along with a big chatter bait, a frog, and a swimbait situationally.

PB was on a mann’s jelly worm. I don’t fish with them much any more for some reason…?

2nd biggest bass was on a 4 inch senko.

3rd biggest bass was on a cut off raggedy 5 inch senko.

4th and 5th  biggest bass was on a zoom super fluke.I have caught more 5-8 pound bass on them than any other bait .

6th biggest was on a 7.5 culprit worm.

7th biggest was on a booyah pad crasher.

This doesn’t reflect my live bait catches…

Possibly already ran my pie-hole in this thread but just in case.

PB was on a Texas rigged culprit worm.

Most of my big fish by a wide margin came on a spinnerbait.

My most recent big fish came on a Magnum fluke.

Same here. Not even close. Now, I would have to say that my biggest average is probably a jig, then chatterbait. Texas rig (various worms) and frogs have done pretty well also but not ahead of the other three for average size (for me).

All that said, I fish from the bank 99% of the time and have really narrowed down what I fish with. This is mostly due to productivity and partly be due to some things just being harder to fish effectively from the bank.
