  1. and, just to muddy things up further, there's always the bcr804. 8-) would probably just go with the 784 tho...based on your replies.
  2. x2.
  3. good review...have been looking at this one, as well. which casting rod have you chosen?

    good one.
  5. some of my best heart attacks have come from jitterbugs. i always carry at least one on the water.
  6. as a kid, made many a meal off hot biscuits with a fresh chunk of garden onion inside. we didn't have much else growing up...maybe streak-of-lean and red-eye when the crops came in. at the time, i'da slapped the mule for mustard.
  7. i fish a zoom ole monster at night pretty much the same way i do in the daytime. if they want it, they got no trouble finding it.
  8. stradic...have owned both. the sustain may be a tad smoother and may stay a tad smoother longer but, after that, there ain't a whole heckuva lotta difference.
  9. in 1976, the government spent untold millions for a swine flu vaccine the first time it came around. i think the vaccine killed more folks than the flu.
  10. instead of hooking thru the full body, try angling the hook's insertion into the head and skinhooking it to the side of the body. it will give the bait a slightly different action but, your hooking percentage should go up.
  11. sadly, i can tell the difference. have tried the carrots and the crucials, the kistler's and the avids, as well as the le's. a lotta rods come close to the glx...none surpass it. with or without a name.
  12. if you can see them, they can see you. my best advise would be, get where they can't.
  13. imx. between the crucial and the avid, it's a toss-up. between the crucial and the imx, it ain't.
  14. all casting. tho, swmbo has a zebco omega i "borrow" now and then.
  15. You're 12 lb line will break long before there is 12 pounds of pressure on it. I understand that people do things differently. Just like Ike "feeding line", but I can't see any benefits of setting the drag "too tight". If I set it at the recommended 1/3 of the line rating I then am allowed the decision of putting my thumb on the spool to attempt to stop a fish heading to heavy cover (knowing that I could easily end up losing the fish to my line breaking). However, if I set it too tight then I can't easily/quickly loosen it if necessary. I would recommend setting the drag at 1/3 the line rating (at the most) and never changing it when fighting a fish. i hear something about a thumb in there.
  16. don't use much drag in freshwater. god gave us thumbs for good reason.
  17. little shirt gets around. he popped me for another 50mg last night.
  18. the st. croix avid is an excellent rod series in that price range. personally, would pick the avid over the lowrider...the xg is a good rod but, in my hands, feels sluggish compared to the avid.
  19. chris collingsworth is the spawn of billy mays and nancy grace.
  20. good show. they need to hurry it up, tho...bananabreath has been waiting on a cbr785 far too long.
  21. team9nine hit it. "hunters" are rare but, seem to be more prevalent in the older wooden baits. the novice may think they are defective but, they are highly prized by the dedicated cranker.
  22. have met a lotta different folks that either liked or disliked a lotta different reels. have yet to meet anyone that did not like the 50mg. and, yes, tw is good folks.
  23. stuck in ruts here, too. 12# yozuri hybrid for tip down. 15# fluoro for tip up...tho sometimes i get frisky and bump it to 20# here.
