  1. I have been reading this post and was not going to respond but when I thought about it I have a lot of opportunities here in SE PA. I fish a few different rivers and lakes if they are open and haven't frozen over. The non-tidal Delaware offers SM and Walleye. The local creeks offer catfish and a few crappy. A club I belong to has 3 lakes that provide good fishing for walleye, pike and crappy all winter as long as they don't freeze. Then there are trout streams an hour or two away. I guess I'm pretty lucky.
  2. That is a good looking ramp. I wish our ramps on the Susque were in that good of shape. ?
  3. I fish in a lot of different places on the east coast. Without a doubt, PA has some of the worst ramps I've ever used. This is especially true of the ramps on the Susquehanna. In fact, they closed two ramps I fish, Muncy & Wysox, in the past two years because the ramps themselves have disappeared. And it seems they have no intention to repair them. It also seems the PF&BC likes to put ramps on the shallow side of the river. There is one access area I fish that I have to back into the river 70 to 80 yards many days depending on the water flow. That is if I can get down the dirt section of the ramp to the beach. Fortunately, the river is gravel in front of the ramp but I'm always concerned that I'll hit a soft spot or a hole. Is it worth it? I'll say yes until I get stuck really bad. ?
  4. Had that happen to a friend but it got much worst after the boat got away. He was launching the boat and the boat's front eye would always catch on the winch roller. This day it didn't and he saw the boat starting to float into the bay. He jumped out of his truck and into the water to grab the boat. It was then he realized he never put the truck in park. The truck rolled down the ramp. The truck door was open and it quickly filled up. The insurance company totaled the truck. It wasn't even a year old.
  5. My electric hook sharpener died last year but I still keep a rod and stone handy. I am a firm believer in sharp hooks. I often wonder how many more fish I've caught only because my hooks were sticky sharp.
  6. I have a few floating Rapalas with broken bills that I use as floats.
  7. Yep! And don't forget the Beetle Spin and Twister Tail on a jighead. The Rebel Crawfish is one of my go-to's for fishing the Susquehanna. There are days when I never tie on another lure.
  8. If it was me I'd be checking out the bait shops in North Jersey and talking to those folks. They have a good handle on what is working up there in the surf or on the jetties. BTW when I was fishing North Jersey I used a different rod for the beach and the jetties.
  9. A few years ago a few of us were sharing Musky info on a certain river on another outdoor website. One guy never shared anything regarding location or tactics. I knew he was catching fish. I called him out for being selfish and he defended himself by saying others would burn or ruin the spots. A few weeks later one of the "regulars" asked about SM fishing at a spot I knew well. I told him where to fish and what baits to use and how to use them. A week later he posted a picture of a picnic table completely covered by BIG dead smallmouths. I was shocked. I never expected him and his friends to kill the fish they caught. Many others on the site jumped all over him. I was sick but kept my mouth shut. I decided that I was not going to share info but I still do. I'm just more careful with who I share it and now I agree with the "regular" who did not want to share info.
  10. I have a whole set that was given to my son. They have never been wet but I'm going to try them someday.
  11. Yes, it is. When I think of small towns where I'd like to live Wellsboro is at the top of the list.
  12. ? There are so many top water baits and so many ways to work them. Do not limit yourself. I fish a lot of top water baits and experiment all the time. One of the things about top water I find most satisfying is that you can watch the bait and see what is happening.
  13. There are access points up and down the river in that stretch so you should have no problem. The only wild card is the water and fall is usually more stable than spring.
  14. For me, the fall is probably the best fishing on the Susquehanna. I use to wade the main branch in and around Halifax and Millersburg but have not fished that area in years. It is probably the most accessible and easy-to-reach area for wading coming from VA. BTW another option is the Juniata.
  15. The North Branch is real low but as of yesterday, the West Branch has some water. We did have 3 days of thunderstorms that probably helped.
  16. I blew the picture up but lost a lot of resolution. It looks like there might be a person in the water next to the dock. The vehicle has a lot of damage to the side that is visible to us so it may have rolled over. I am curious and hope that someone posts some details.
  17. Of all the waters I fish I prefer ponds and small bodies of water.
  18. If I'm in the boat and depending on the velocity of the water and the area I'm fishing I troll up past or over the boulders, drift down over or alongside them, or anchor near them. Regarding riffles, I do much the same. The important part is using a lure that can overcome the current and get down to the fish. If I'm wading and can get to the structure it is easy to pick it apart.
  19. I have one of those that was given to me as a gift but I have never fished with it. I think I'll try it next trip. Just an FYI: I fished it on two occasions. It creates a lot of commotion and appears to be a quality product. I have not had a fish it yet but I have no doubt it will get some fish's attention.
  20. Try a car finish compound or even toothpaste. Both are mildly abrasive and should not remove any paint just the gloss. I'll be looking for your results. I have often wondered about high gloss vs a flat or matt finish on plugs.
  21. I fish a lot of nasty cover. I get snagged often. I have tried the Albright, Alberto, and the Uni to Uni. I now stick to the Uni to Uni because when I get snagged and I try to pull free or break off the bait the knot breaks at the bait. With the other two knots, the break occurs at the braid-to-leader connection.
  22. A-Jay Have you ever fished with the Spoonplug? My son was given a complete set that has never been wet. I keep wanting to try them but haven't.
  23. Have you considered polarized clip-on's for your regular prescription glasses? They are cheap and I use them on my prescription glasses.
